It'll be the same old be kind, soft-voice stuff, but just a heads up if anyone wants to listen.

Saints Alive. Katie Montgomerie is the 'expert' speaker.

The GRR simultaneously doesn't do anything at all and is insignificant, whilst also being vital.

Bloody hell bingo card nearly full
Flee the country.
Threats to my life.
Suicide
No difference GRC
Vital GRC
No skin the game.

All delivered in a male voice.

WinterTrees · 18/01/2023 12:28

Also JV framing it as we're all bored of it and exhausted with the arguing.

Why yes, millionaire white media man, we are indeed FUCKING SICK AND TIRED OF IT. But for different reasons than you are.

This Scarlett person is talking complete bollocks!

Appalonia · 18/01/2023 12:34

God I wish they'd have someone like Helen Joyce or KJK on this for a proper debate!

I suspect a proper debate is the last thing Jeremy Vine wants. He's bored of it now and it's messing with Big Boy politics. He wants us to just shut up whinging, he's indulged us long enough.

It’s enough to make a cat laugh

This person who died mysteriously… their partner subsequently took their own life as a result of the deceased being misgendered at the inquest - really?

Rightsraptor · 18/01/2023 12:44

I turned off as soon as I heard what he was discussing. I knew my blood pressure would not be able to take it. I put the radio back on in time to hear 'Scarlett' start to speak, so turned it off again.

If you want to follow something worthwhile, try this from 1pm:

leeds.public-i.tv/core/portal/home

Leeds Resisters will be putting their views to Leeds City Council about the 'Katie' Dolotowski debacle (see also the thread here about it).

'Why yes, millionaire white media man, we are indeed FUCKING SICK AND TIRED OF IT. But for different reasons than you are.'

Correct. He's such a plum

'It’s enough to make a cat laugh'

Never heard this phrase before, love it 😁

‘Scarlett’ has ‘impostor syndrome’ when in female toilets… I wonder why!

WinterTrees · 18/01/2023 12:53

I'm only listening with half an ear while doing something else, and I'm fairly immune to the utter fuckwittery by now, but I'm still enraged that they had a lengthy introduction by the BBC Scotland corespondent (balanced, factual) followed by KATIE MONTGOMERIE bleating at length about trans people preparing to flee to other countries, spouting bonkers suicide stories and handwaving away the fact that child rapist Dolatowski was sent to a women's prison as if it's some trivial admin matter.

Where was the spokeswoman to counter that? Where was the famous BBC balance?

You're right Jeremy. I feel fucking worn down.

You made a very wise choice in switching off Rightsraptor. I wish I'd done the same for the whole segment, not just that godawful Years and Years song.

I'm not sure that the correspondent really understood the issue.

It's not (just) about what happens when someone with a Scottish GRC comes to England, it's about how, even in Scotland the GRR interacts with the Equality Act.

Blister · 18/01/2023 13:18

Vitally insignificant.
I'm keeping that one.

VinoDino · 18/01/2023 13:59

Everytime they've covered this on his Channel 5 show it's been so poor. The same transwoman phones in with not much to say about anything, Owen Jones pipes in with whataboutery, any women callers on the GC side get spoken over and JV sits and looks daft.

Can't watch it anymore, plus LOJ's mere misogynistic presence gives me the rage and makes my vagina sad.

Mollyollydolly · 18/01/2023 14:08

I'm immune to all the bollocks .. what does annoy me is how it seems impossible for so many media orgs to cover this in anything like an impartial way. Iain Dale same the other night on LBC. Why is it so difficult to give opposing viewpoints. WHY are women invisible, why is the effect on women's rights never covered? It's so lightweight, so bland, so facile. This is the BBC for goodness sake.

Mollyollydolly · 18/01/2023 14:09

And where's Helen magnificent Joyce? Blacklisted I'm convinced.

endofagain · 18/01/2023 15:04

Shelagh Fogarty's show on LBC just now was very disappointing. The last caller quoted completely false statistics and was not challenged at any point. I normally find her pretty up to speed on things, but clearly she hasn't kept up with this.

DOBARDAN · 18/01/2023 15:19

I couldn’t watch or listen to JV as I knew my blood would turn into lumpy custard if I did. It really is so depressing

unwashedanddazed · 18/01/2023 15:19

I heard that last called just on LBC. I'm sick and tired of men spouting stats that are supposed to show women have nothing to fear. How the fuck would he know how fearful women can be in public spaces?

The message is always that male violence is so terrible and intractable that TW have to use women's spaces, whilst simultaneously telling women that talking about male violence is just dog-whistley scaremongering. Just fuck the fuck off.

IwantToRetire · 18/01/2023 15:57

To be kind JV is either just a lazy slack journalist or a product of BBC trans training

But worth remembering he got his C5 programme because the previous presenter would not apologise that someone on the panel said that a certain well known trans woman had had privileges through growing up male. And as we all know recent court cases say having this belief is acceptable. And yet the presenter was sacked. The show is produced by ITN one of the main news(?!) providers in the UK.

So not only did JV get the show for toeing the trans line, but was allowed to pre- record so he could get to do his BBC show live. This alone is totally bizarre.

Everytime this issue comes up he either pretends he doesn't understand, or that it is important to young peope so oldies should shut up.

I'm only bothering to type this because not just on the issue of women's sex based rights, but countless others, I am enraged that such a mediocre white middle class male is allowed to bluff his way through, and is allowed to do it because of his race, class and sex.

If I ever start to think the BBC is a good thing, I just think of him, and the many others, men whose assumed right to be inadequate but entitled to sucess, reminds me why I became a feminist in the first place.

I wich we could all just laugh and say what a joke. But people tune in to him. Isn't he one of the highest paid BBC presenters.

Lottapianos · 18/01/2023 17:13

'I heard that last called just on LBC. I'm sick and tired of men spouting stats that are supposed to show women have nothing to fear. How the fuck would he know how fearful women can be in public spaces?'

He was AWFUL. It was all an academic exercise to him, zero clue about actual women's lives and experiences

Thought Shelagh was very slack today. Disappointing.

flyingbuttress43 · 18/01/2023 17:15

Re Katie Montgomerie's suggestion trans people are fleeing the country..
May I suggest they go to Afghanistan? That will go well.

endofagain · 18/01/2023 17:29

I really think that if a journalist knows they are going to do an item on a controversial topic, they really should check the facts and brush up on statistics first. Very poor.

InterestingUsernameTBC · 18/01/2023 19:19

Jeremy Vine said Katie Dolatowski committed offences 'while in a man's body'. Surely he can hear how mad that sounds, surely? I mean, which man's body was KD in whilst committing these offences? Where is this man's body now? Has it been returned to the man who owns it?
