Already mentioned but I have to second the Lissa Evans recommendation. Her kids book Wed Wabbit is one of the best out there, and Old Baggage is just marvellous. Clever, funny, poignant. She's fab.

I think I read on here that Melissa Harisson was GC and read her novel All Among the Barley as a result, and loved it. I don't think I ever saw any GC statements/leanings from her on twitter etc though so not sure how GC she actually is!
