Carry On Films-Art imitating modern life

I know, I know but I loved these as a child and I'm enjoying the nostalgia with memories of my late dad.
God what sexist, misogynistic horrors they were but what strikes me is how back then men dressing up as women as a con trick was seen as funny. Now it's sinister reality. Who knew that art was to imitate life a few decades later. What I will say though is the Carry On cast made a better job of it that many of the men these days do!

Some fantastic women in those films. I adore Matron.

I'd like to think they would never be made these days but I think what we have now is worse with drag race etc. Misogyny is just in a different guise now but ultimately the same.

I dont view them as misogynist, the men are always the fools in Carry On

...and in years to come people will look on internet archive and look at how irrational and bigoted this forum was, cos, you know, society progresses.

By definition, we can't see things with hindsight until after the fact. I find the whole 'right side of history' thing quite a strange argument. 'In future everyone will agree with me, and then you'll be sorry'. It's just wishful thinking, really, isn't it?

If you think the Carry Ons are sexist, try watching the 'On the Buses' film ... keeping in mind that it was the highest grossing film in the UK in 1971!

Bernard Bresslaw is more is more convincing than most of his current day counterparts.

Isn't that what you demanded of us yesterday

Some people are accustomed to thinking of themselves as superior to women, and entitled to give out instructions on how we should behave.

3. Sweeping negative generalisations about any group, including trans people and gender-critical feminists, won’t be tolerated.
