LGTBQ Nation questions 'genderfluid' Brinton's conversion therapy story

ArabellaScott · 08/12/2022 19:16

Sam Brinton, currently awaiting trial for theft of a woman's suitcase:

'The red flags regarding Brinton were overwhelming and obvious to all who cared to see them. Unfortunately, some of America’s top LGBTQ+ activists and organizations were willfully blind to Brinton’s shortcomings.
...
These organizations, such as the Trevor Project and the National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR), ignored clear warning signs and incontrovertible evidence because Brinton provided these groups with a seemingly perfect ex-gay survivor story to expose horrific conversion therapy practices and ideology.'

Men don't have fetishises .

Or is it only a fetish when they get found out and they are now embarrassing you and people are asking the questions you can't answer?

You can't support his behaviour and then all of a sudden say he's lying. We need to accept every man who claims to be a woman as female so it needs to be accepted that Brinton is as much a LBGT whatever other letters as anyone else?

(Ps i don't agree with the above- but it's what we are being told every single day)

I respect the journalist who put this story together and who warns that giving charlatans a platform will only hurt gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people. I feel the story sums up much of what has happened over the last few years.

Obvious questions not being asked, shameless lies and self-promotion overlooked, major organisations falling over themselves to recruit a poster child, no due diligence … all very familiar.

Absolutely!

Years ago as a student I lost a pair of knickers off the washing line in the back garden. I thought perhaps I hadn’t pegged them securely & they’d blown off.

A few days later someone put them through the door. The gusset had been chopped out of them.

ArabellaScott · 09/12/2022 22:39

Christ, Sazzasez, that's awful!

Apparently he has spoken at bondage and spanking workshops- who knew these were a thing ?

I believe they're quite a thing in the Royal College of Nursing where their chief was a fan of bondage workshops and was suspended for a range of issues including open hostility to women.

It's always no true Scotsman once they get caught.

PoppySeedBagelRedux · 10/12/2022 02:41

So was Dave Dawes cleared, as he so confidently predicted?

MrsOvertonsWindow · 10/12/2022 07:28

Look at the DM account of the state of the RCN with such extreme misogyny that their annual conference had to be cancelled because women wouldn't be safe 😱

No wonder the NHS is so easily captured.

Feckedupbundle · 10/12/2022 08:50

*Chersfrozenface" yes,I had underwear stolen from a changing room at a swimming pool, and years ago a man in our village was caught punching underwear off a washing line.
He was chased down the street by the owner, who was wielding a horse whip.

IvyTwines · 10/12/2022 09:15

@ArabellaScott yes there was even a Madness song about it back in the day, 'In the Middle of the Night'. Nice, jaunty man in the shop with a dark secret who slinks away once unmasked. I think it's a thing on Ebay too, according to past Mumsnet threads!

Faffertea · 10/12/2022 09:45

There is no limit to what men will fetishise. DS was born very premature so I had to express milk for him while he was in NICU. One of the nurses told me you can make a fortune selling breast milk on eBay 🤢

ArabellaScott · 10/12/2022 09:52

I wonder if such a high profile fetishist will open some more eyes to the fact that fetishes are paraphilias, and many of them are non-consensual by their nature.

Some interesting stats in here:

'A 2017 Pew Research poll found 32% of U.S. adults believe society has “gone too far in accepting transgender people,” including 57% of Republicans and 12% of Democrats. A follow-up Pew Research poll in June found 60% of Americans believe gender is determined by the sex people are assigned at birth, including 86% of Republicans and 38% of Democrats. Nearly two-thirds of respondents 65 years and older agreed, compared to half of people ages 18-29.'

Well, wasn't the one they are getting sentenced for a very stylish suitcase?? I mean.... maybe it wasn't just about the panties. A stylish suitcase is very desirable these days and it takes a while to get that 'lived in' look that money doesn't seem to be able to buy....

Why on earth do women assume the best? FGS Hellofaberyl!

AraberylScott · 10/12/2022 11:13

If someone feels moved to steal two suitcases, surely this shows just how absent-minded and forgetful they is? Or how much they loves certain special stylish suitcases? Only the prurient would suggest this is some kind of pattern or was sexually motivated.

TastefulRainbowUnicorn · 10/12/2022 11:15

Why on earth do women assume the best?

I thought that comment was a joke? Though the design of the suitcase is significant - he will have known it was a woman’s case he was stealing.

AraberylScott · 10/12/2022 11:28

'Brinton presented a seminar a fortnight ago named: 'Spanking: From Calculus To Chemistry.'

The bio goes on to say: 'They have been active in the kink world since 2013, host monthly kink parties in their dungeon in Washington, DC, and estimate they have spanked over 2,000 cute butts.'' - from the Mail article.

Yes, stealing clothes is a fetish.

Stealing panties off washing lines is a positive cliché.

Reader, it actually happened to me, donkeys' years ago, in a rural area.

It’s relatively common. Chaps often prefer to steal womens clothes, even if ‘only’ from members of their own families, even though there is now no problem in buying your own online. The explanation is usually that the stolen clothes are more ‘ real’ as they have been worn by women, and also that the theft increases the sensation of transgression which is often an integral part of cross dressing.

Or so my psychologist friend says.

Sophoclesthefox · 10/12/2022 11:36

Creep turns out to be creepy! I’m doing my shocked face 😦

Brinton set off my spidey senses from the get go. I am quite disturbed about how women are being pushed and shamed to over ride our gut instincts in the name of progress.

The utter fantastical lies about the “conversion therapy” are far worse than I thought. The prospect that this is another instance of the T actually setting progress back for LGB people is very disheartening. “Trust, but verify” is a pretty good rule of thumb that serves well, and could have been created for this kind of situation. That comes up hard against the prevailing winds of standpoint theory and “everyone has their own truth” that are blowing so hard among the bien-pensant though…

AraberylScott · 10/12/2022 11:36

Well, that's gross.

I also had my clothes stolen off the line as a student. Just my stuff, a nightie, a pretty blouse, for a while I thought I'd been pranked. The realisation was unsettling.

ApocalipstickNow · 10/12/2022 13:44

I had a pair of old jeans taken- I lived in a flat the washing line was right by my door- these creeps are fucking shameless.
