Janie thank you for the archive copy. Interesting pointy article - a white male UN expert is lauded and listened to, whereas an equivalent expert who happens to be a woman of colour is dismissed.

Frankly though, the characteristics of the people involved may well be less important than the fact that one was saying things NS doesn’t like. And that is also very troubling. How can anyone adequately govern a country if they’re not prepared to consider different points of view? Nobody is right 100% of the time. Acknowledging conflicting opinions and properly weighing their merit is a strength not a weakness.

NS has specifically refused to hear inputs from women and from detransitioners. I don’t know if there are routes to challenge such biased law-making, there certainly should be.

I'm not convinced the characteristics of those from the UN are the key factor. It's what they're saying and supporting or challenging that is.

Sturgeon seems to have painted herself into a corner with this issue, with the SNP is propping up the extreme policies of the Greens as a result. That was the direction of travel before the two parties buddied up but now the dangerous policy of self-ID appears to have had rocket boosters attached.
