And JKR gets this 🤷‍♀️

God that’s grim

Why aren’t they looking at facts and data? Mind-blowing.

The lies are all too complicated to untangle so they’re just not going to bother trying.

Thank you for the updates ArabellaScott!

you're very welcome, sorry they are a bit scant. I was mostly banging my head off the desk.

A lot of MSPs weren’t chosen for their knowledge or intelligence but for their compliance and agreement to tie the party line. Hence why we have to rely on the Torts to ask the probing questions.

dementedma · 22/11/2022 19:24

It is a terrifying time to be a woman in Scotland. Can we plan a huge fuck it rally for the next reading?

nilsmousehammer · 22/11/2022 19:29

ArabellaScott · 22/11/2022 13:20

There was a glimmer there that they were all going to grasp the fact that a male wishing to access vulnerable women could abuse the self ID system.

I sincerely hope every last one of these MSPs currently voting our rights out of existence wakes up in the middle of the night in a sudden cold sweat, when they finally, FINALLY think through the ramifications that so many people have been saying over and over again.

I could almost be angry enough to wish that their eyes be opened by direct, personal experience.

But this isn't something I'd wish on anyone, even someone I think is this wholly and stupidly irresponsible, lost in the thrill of their own zealotry, and unfit for any post of public responsibility.

nilsmousehammer · 22/11/2022 19:33

And ah, a rape threat to JKR for speaking, from a bloke. How very progressive and liberal. And sane.

I never understand why these exceptionally dim men fantasise about sticking their penises between female victims' teeth. Frankly guys, insert nothing into a pissed off woman's mouth that you'd like to be able to take home and play with afterwards. You'd think their mothers might have mentioned this in instructing their sweet little chaps on how to make rape threats when they're all big and grown up.

Elaine Miller stood up in the meeting and complained that the Cabinet Secretary, Shona Robison, was 'doodling' instead of listening. The live feed was cut, and I believe Elaine had to leave.

Thread from Lucy Hunter Blackburn. (of MBM)

twitter.com/LucyHunterB/status/1595105976688037888

'This morning I sat in Committee and watched the performance of a government minister which I would describe without hestitation as shameful. Speaking notes that showed contempt for reasoned debate, and contempt for any group (women, here) getting in the government's way.

In a setting where the Parliament had allowed the debate to be rushed, confused and confusing and constructed to minimise effective scrutiny and holding the government to account, and the most ardent supporters of changing the law were too cowardly to put their position forward.

...

Whatever sort of victory the government achieves here, it won't be a moral one.

Or one for the Scottish Parliament, which emerges tarnished from this process.

And it could break your heart.'

'The SNP minister driving through Scotland’s controversial gender reform laws has been accused of “shameful behaviour” over claims she was seen doodling instead of paying attention to the debate on extending trans rights.'

Elaine Miller has done more to help women than all those MSPs together.

And MBM have done such phenomenal work. They could not have done any more. It is heartbreaking that our parliament is not fit for purpose and our MSPs care so little for evidence based solutions.

Ash Regan writes on the GRR in the Times:

'Yesterday the Gender Recognition Reform Bill passed its second stage of scrutiny virtually unamended in any substantive way....

We have single-sex prisons for a reason. The law should support the Scottish Prison Service to hold prisoners according to the risk they present, no matter how they identify. Violent sex offenders have no place in the women’s estate.

Women’s single-sex spaces for privacy, safety or therapeutic purposes are enshrined in the Equality Act 2010. These important protections will be impossible to uphold when anyone can decide they are a woman and have a GRC to prove their legal status.

If this bill is to be enacted, there needs to be clear guidance for institutions and business to ensure they operate within the law. There are so many unanswered questions. More clarity is required so that we understand the impact this change in the law will have on all of us.'

Not strictly relevant but SC have just ruled that Scotland can't hold their second referendum without approval from Westminster.

I hope so too. But the reality seems to be that they don't give a single flying fuck about vulnerable women. Even the women MSPs don't give a fuck about vulnerable women.

They don't.

In fact it is hard to miss that they actively despise women.

This legislation puts male people - whatever gender they choose to identify as in that moment this exclusively benefits males- in a position of power and privilege. It values protecting their feelings, their privacy, their dignity, their wishes and choices, by removing any care at all for feelings, privacy, dignity, wishes, choices and access from females.

Being born with a penis in Scotland gives you power and privilege that those born without are not only denied, but despised, ignored and laughed at for requesting.

This is male supremacism. It's that simple. It's nothing to do with trans, it is only male people winning and only female people losing. The inequality and double standards is entirely sex based.

This includes accepting and normalising and just plain ignoring that women will be raped in prisons for example - actual bodily harm and lifelong lifechanging trauma - in order to spare a male person experiencing any boundaries that infringe their choices and feelings.

I cannot put into words my disgust. This is evil.

stealtheatingtunnocks · 25/11/2022 02:37

Was Elaine Millar arrested for interrupting?

thst is awful for JKR.

I am shocked by this, all of it is dreadful __

ArabellaScott · 25/11/2022 09:53

No, stealtheatingtunnocks, she was asked to leave, I think, but she said everyone was polite and respectful and allowed her to finish speaking.

Rachael Hamilton is a bad, bad egg. Terrible business owner (makes Basil Fawlty look polished), dodgy ongoing with pensions and salaries and an all round awful MSP. Serious dog whistle politics on the GR - the stuff of daily mail middle pages (but she’s not quite articulate enough to get headlines.) must be seriously embarrassing for tories if she’s fronting this.

stealtheatingtunnocks · 25/12/2022 01:45

I thought she was really good, @user1468656818 - articulate, calm; clear, informed and took no crap from Maggie Chapman.
