This Thursday at the UNICEF Baby Friendly conference Karleen Gribble is going to be speaking about communication. If you are attending, I think it would be great if you could listen to the talk and tweet support for her during the day of the conference. She’s speaking at 9am.

Karleen is one of the authors of the paper “Effective communication about pregnancy, birth, lactation, breastfeeding and newborn care: the importance of sexed language” which looked at the issues around desexing language to be “gender neutral” and some ways forward.

You can read the article here: www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fgwh.2022.818856/full

Unfortunately, the conference is now closed and you can’t book onto it but if anyone is already going, it would be good to hear her talk and tweet in support of balanced and measured approach to language around pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding.

I can't go so would also love if someone could post a summary of the talk or highlights.

I remember that article. It is beautifully nuanced and clear, with convincing arguments. What a dreadful thing that it has become necessary to write it. I hope its message will be spread.
