'A man arrested in a Scottish hospital last year is US fugitive Nicholas Rossi, a court has ruled.

The man had claimed to have been the victim of mistaken identity, and insisted his name was Arthur Knight.

But Edinburgh Sheriff Court heard that his tattoos and fingerprints matched those of Rossi.

Authorities in the US are seeking Rossi's extradition over allegations of rape and sexual assault.

It is alleged that he faked his own death and fled to Scotland to escape prosecution.

He had spent the past year insisting that he was Arthur Knight, an orphan from Ireland who had never been to the US.'

"There is no evidence that predatory and abusive men have ever had to pretend to be anything else to carry out predatory and abusive behaviour."

Absolutely bizarre, he claimed staff administered the tattoos in hospital to fit him up and stole his fingerprints
Calculated attempt to conceal his true identity and evade criminal justice

What a bizarre story and how did the nhs workers know to check interpol for images of his tattoos? Doesn’t sound like a routine thing to do. I guess he was being monitored by someone and when he went into hospital the opportunity arose to check his tattoos. Sounds a bit like that Russian fake heiress tale but worse.
it’ll be a Netflix show by 2024 😁

Dreamwhisper · 11/11/2022 18:07

This is horrifying and I am also really interested to know how they have been able to track him if he faked his own death.

It's not like the Russian heiress, he is a serial rapist Sad

ClaudiusTheGod · 11/11/2022 18:22

This is such a weird story. Why is he in a wheelchair with the mask over his face and bag thing? I’ve never seen anyone on oxygen who has an arrangement like that.

WeeM · 11/11/2022 18:44

The whole thing is completely weird and surely a Netflix show in the making. And his partner sticking by him…she must be totally brainwashed!

@Dreamwhisper
All i can think of is, that having gone into hospital, he hadn't turned up on any medical record systems, so police were called in case of stolen identity. Only when they got him to the police station, his fingerprints will have turned up on a database.
If he faked his death, then there'd be no proof he was actually dead and would possibly have been listed as missing.
If memory serves me right, you have to have been missing 7 years before you can be legally declared dead, where no remains have been found. So there may be a data base of lost people that he was on?
I'd think, in todays world with DNA fingerprinting, it would be nigh on impossible to pass someone elses body off as your own.

It reminds me of the case of the American, who imsmr, had killed and minced 2 mormon missionaries, was put away and mistakenly let loose, only to wind up in Norfolk or somewhere similar, with a newly found English wife and who became a member of a local gun club with plans to bump his mrs off.
Iirc, he had made himself out to be some sort of war hero, or at least a medal recipient, who, when a newly made English friend had looked into the medal recipients, hadn't been able to find his friends name and that led to the truth eventually coming out.

Funny how many of the lawyers who become politicians, have never heard of any of these cases, isn't it?
It's almost like they deliberately turn a blind eye to anything that doesn't jive with their stupidity and lack of common sense!

Yes. I think the distinction, in their minds, is that a gender change is of a different order than other types of identity change. Sacred caste.

Images were released by Interpol - not sure what made them think he wasn't dead - and hospital staff recognised his tattoos, apparently. He's claiming he was set up and someone tattooed him while he was unconscious 🤨 (read a couple of articles on the BBC website earlier!)

newrubylane · 11/11/2022 19:40

Also, he had previous convictions, which may have been why Interpol were suspicious about his 'death'?

HeraldicBlazoning · 11/11/2022 19:49

I am in Scotland and have been following this case since he was first arrested almost a year ago.

The whole thing is like a movie - faked death, assumed identity, says that NHS staff tattooed him while he was in a coma and also colluded with the US authorities to falsify his fingerprints. He has been remanded in custody for over a year in Scotland afaik, and a full extradition hearing will be heard in March - and these are usually straightforward.

MushroomQueen · 11/11/2022 21:27

I was just reading this. It seems bizzare it could be believed- like if he is who he says he is where is his family, photos of him growing up - it's all just crazy
