Always useful to get a bit of context before sharing or clicking - it's Ricky Gervais talking about women.. and yes.. it is funny (and I am not a fan of stand up comedy and definitely not a fan of Ricky Gervais) but I totally understand the weeping... it is scary isn't it... how the narrative is being played out.

😂😂😂 thank you for sharing
Conedy is a very apt way of highlighting this particular absurdity. And anyway, if you didn’t laugh…

always a classic

So much captured by such a short piece, it really is good.

Well I’m glad most enjoyed it.

Apologies for not following the ‘rules’ of posting something I found both amusing and infuriating.

It could have been anything lol so a bit of description is best

Well....er....look at the board it's been posting in?
That should cover it?!?

Lots of people don't like clicking on a link unless they know what it is, the poster wasn't having a go

But yes I think the skit sums up where we are...sadly

Thelnebriati · 20/10/2022 14:21

James Acaster being offensive about old people before calling out Ricky Gervais, without a shred of irony.

No-one was instructing you in rules. @ChateauMargaux 's post was an extremely pleasantly worded one, which made it clear she was totally on your side, and helpfully pointed out that it helps to get responses to your post when people know what the link will be about. It was a constructive post in motivation and execution.

Precisely. The women here are less likely to click on any old link with no explanation or context.

Don't banks and action fraud say DONT CLICK ON LINKS you don't know? 🙄

Don't banks and action fraud say DONT CLICK ON LINKS you don't know?

Dh has drummed it in to all of us. So much so that I have to do my own version of 'long time poster, pom bears, penis beaker, cutted up pear' thing whenever I send the children a link

EnjoyingTheSilence · 21/10/2022 20:28

So don’t click on the link. Wow such much hostility. And who said I wanted responses. I’ve had a really shit week, saw something I thought people might like and posted without thinking. Won’t bother again.

Aw come on OP no one has been nasty at all. But most people won’t click on a link that isn’t at least given some identification.

amazing clip. And whilst he may have had a few comments about it he certainly doesn’t appear to have received the level of hate that JK has (for saying absolutely nothing as contentious as he did). In fact that wasnt that his last tour and the current one has sold out. Wonder why the discrepancy? 🤔

EnjoyingTheSilence · 22/10/2022 00:08

I didn’t say anyone has been nasty. Please don’t put words in my mouth.

I accept that some may have not wanted to click on a link without any context but to be fair I could have written word for word what he said and still put a dodgy link in. And no one forces anyone to click on a link. There have been many threads where people have done what I’ve done and I’ve thought I’m not clicking on that, I don’t then feel the need to tell that person that they should explain what it’s about.

As I said, I’d been having a particularly bad week (not anyones else's problem, and I didn’t say this, didn’t feel the need to). I saw something that I thought might resonate with some and yes people have liked it but I feel the other comments were completely unnecessary. I have to say I don’t find this bit of MN that welcoming or friendly which is a real shame

Trolls post some pretty unpleasant goady stuff on this board occasionally. You never know what it is going to be, so it puts you off clicking on unknown links.

It just helps to have a bit of description of what it is before you click.

EnjoyingTheSilence · 22/10/2022 00:53

How would it help? I could literally say anything and still post a link to something dodgy?

OP posts:
Longerthanfiveweeks · 22/10/2022 07:32

I genuinely don’t understand why you think people have been hostile? People have said they liked your link, and politely pointed out that more people are likely to click on it if they are given a heads up as to what the content is. Personally I am unlikely to click not because I think it’s dodgy, but just a time/ priority thing. Loads of threads on Mumsnet so more likely to look further into the threads that it’s clear what they are about.

That first post that you interpreted negatively was actually, I think, intending to welcome you and help you to get more ‘reads’. Other posters, wanted to help to see that poster was being helpful, and perhaps also defend that first poster from what we saw as an unwarranted criticism.

Kindly, but could your bad week have caused you to be hyper-vigilant to ‘hostility’ and being over alert to it, seeing it when it isn’t there? I’ve certainly had episodes of this in the past.

I’m really sorry you’ve had a bad week. I really hope you can see people were trying to be helpful and that you post again.

Longerthanfiveweeks · 22/10/2022 07:37

And you know, people are telling you that first post was trying to be helpful because they don’t want you to feel bad, or upset, or unwelcomed or shit, because they know how horrible that feels. People really have been trying to be nice to OP. [ Flowers

Lushers · 22/10/2022 07:53

I'm not sure why OP is getting grief for posting a very obviously YouTube link of Ricky Gervais. It's not a strange dubious link. You can clearly see what it is and that it's You tube. Give her a break .

Faffertea · 22/10/2022 08:05

Someone commenting under the video said they’d just watched the South Park ‘Strong Woman’ episode saw I went and did watched some clips. Perfect satire but also funny and sad.

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 22/10/2022 08:19

Shes not getting ‘grief’
