Only two as they put it in the Times article, against "non-trans women":

Only two, such a trifling thing, honestly we don't know why you people get so het up about female prisoners, they are bad bad non-trans-women otherwise why would they be banged up. eh eh?

/sarcasm

NewBootsAndRanty · 19/10/2022 18:16

But that's only 1/4 of an assault a year..

passthepasta · 19/10/2022 18:32

There were 11 sexual assaults on transgender inmates in 2020 alone.

I agree we should have single sex spaces and this is obviously something that needs addressing but it isn't the trauma olympics. Bad people do bad things. That's why they're in prison.

TastefulRainbowUnicorn · 19/10/2022 18:43

In what country?

Also, it would be good to know how many trans inmates have actually been in Scottish prisons since 2014. The MOD did a similar dodge with UK wide stats- they said there were 10 assaults since 2009-2019, when transwomen were only allowed in womens’ prisons from 2016 and only in significant numbers from 2018.

Signalbox · 19/10/2022 18:57

Presumably that's only 2 reported assaults. If it's anything like the outside world I wonder what number of assaults go unreported.

By women?

SudocremOnEverything · 19/10/2022 19:36

Interestingly they’ve chosen to report it as in 8 years. But actually the assaults were in 2019 and 2022. So that’s 2 in 4 years. Interesting the Scottish government chose the longest possible time frame there…

There aren’t actually that many female prisoners in Scotland either.

SudocremOnEverything · 19/10/2022 19:39

Also, turns out there are only 5 transgender women in women’s prisons in Scotland. So that 2022 assault represents 20% of the population.

SudocremOnEverything · 19/10/2022 19:42

Pick the stat of your choice there. The Scottish government went with one 2 assaults on ‘non trans women’ in 8 years. They didn’t go with 1/5 of trans women prisoners in the female estate assaulted the women prisoners they were housed with in 2022.

Wonder why that is?

Googlecanthelpme · 19/10/2022 20:26

This is a clear example of why not providing any context to a stat / figure makes it absolutely useless and unworthy of reporting.

However those who lack any ability to critically analyse will take it at face value. Im
sure that is the intention when they choose to report in a certain way.

2 in 8 years seems good (not good! But you know, not a huge flag as the TERFS would have you believe) whereas assaults committed by 20% of the trans prison population is very different picture isn’t it.

SudocremOnEverything · 19/10/2022 21:03

I’m not sure either stat is hugely reliable. But it does nicely illustrate the lies, damn lies and statistics thing. 🤣

How does that compare proportionally to assaults within the male population as a whole? Within the vulnerable male population?

ApocalipstickNow · 19/10/2022 21:38

Can we have a link to supporting evidence of that claim pasta?

Thanks in advance.

Justme56 · 19/10/2022 22:19

The 11 is relating to stats from England and Wales. A quick google suggests that at the time there were around 80k prisoners in the male estate in these countries. To be honest I’m not sure if the assaults were on 11 different people or possibly a few prisoners were assaulted more than once.

RealFeminist · 19/10/2022 22:31

ONLY TWO WOMEN LOCKED UP WI MALES AND ASSAULTED I CALL THAT VINDIFICATION OF SCOTLANDS PROGRESSIVE POLICIES

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 19/10/2022 23:32

'Bad people do bad things' is a really shitty take on why anyone is in prison, but particularly women.

Thelnebriati · 20/10/2022 00:04

This from 21 May 2020'
''Eleven transgender inmates sexually assaulted in male prisons last year''

''Last week, ministers revealed that out of 124 sexual assaults in five women's jails over the previous nine years, from 2010 to 2018, seven had been carried out by trans prisoners.''
www.bbc.com/news/uk-52748117

''In a statement, Stonewall...said the figures showed transgender prisoners faced a "high risk of assault, harassment and violence".
Whereas women also face a risk of pregnancy after an assault by a male.

Necessary context:

Male-born trans prisoners were first allowed to request a transfer to women's jails in England and Wales in 2016

Am I correct in thinking that the Prison Service counts anyone with a GRC as their new gender? If so would an assault by a trans woman with a GRC be counted as female on female assault, and therefore not recorded in these statistics?

ApocalipstickNow · 20/10/2022 06:50

Thank you to everyone who has provided links/explanations there.

rabbitwoman · 20/10/2022 07:03

Harms to vulnerable women in prison cone in many forms when they are compelled to share with trans women. For instance, ever thought how utterly awful it must be to be compelled to shower with a rapist like Karen White?

Here is a very good video about it from Rhona Hotchkiss, ex prison governor...

Once this route has been gone down, the stats are absolutely meaningless. We don't always know whether they are reporting factually anymore.

I heard on the radio a few weeks ago that a woman had been the first woman to win some horseracing medal. My first thought was 'so what'? because nowadays you don't know whether that is a woman (in which case big news!) or a man (in which case just another win for a male person). It is not OK for language to be obfuscated such that it's rendered meaningless.

FrancescaContini · 20/10/2022 08:05

Only two? Don’t know what you wimmin are getting het up about.
