TL;DR

Transwoman murders lesbian couple and their son, but has not been put in prison 6 years on. Even if he is finally convicted, he will be able to go into a woman's jail (as it's California, land of misogyny).

I cannot stand to see the way the media ignores this glaring fact: transwomen offend at the same rates as men. Yet we are to consider them a sacred caste when it comes to safeguarding.

I despair at the injustice of at all. I especially feel wretched for the ways in which lesbians have been thrown under the bus in the face of this ideology.

Totally agree 😡

it's California

I think you answered your own question. We don't often hear about murders in the US unless there's a particularly high profile individual or other shocking element involved.

I suspect it will get some proper mainstream coverage once the main part of the trial begins?

it’s been such a long time since the arrests were made that it will have slipped out of most people’s memories - I don’t know how CA or US reporting restrictions work but here the crime can be reported up until arrests are made & charges are brought. After that the press aren’t allowed to print anything much (except factual accounts of court appearances day by day) until the conviction is secured, then the backstory floodgates open.
This is to avoid prejudicing a future jury thus making a fair trial impossible.

Luckily for the tabloids, Kara Dansky and Genevieve Gluck have done their homework for them already!

The DM have covered the story recently so I expect they will be following the trial:

Horrific story. That poor family. Rivers is deeply deeply disturbed

MissingLesbianSpaces · 19/10/2022 23:58

Rivers was one of the men protesting the Michigan Women's Music Festival. He was involved in , and stayed at, "Camp Trans" which they set up on land across from the Women's festival and performed night-time daring deeds at night such as drawing pictures of dicks on the buildings. It should be no surprise this man would want to murder a lesbian.
For those interested: I attended MWMF twice, the first in 1979 as a baby Dyke and then in the mid-80s. It was amazing, 5,000 women putting up stages, electric, and the BONDING was something that helped shape the rest of my life. There were female bands and singers playing almost non-stop, there was drumming, women made jewelry, shirts, food and other things to buy. There were outdoor communal showers, so the idea of showering next to a man was absurd.
Lisa Vogel bought the land after graduating high school in (I think) 1976 and kept the fest going for 40 years. She finally gave it all up after all the protests and accusations of bigotry were non-stop and."Camp Trans" was getting bigger and more dangerous. At that point even the Indigo Girls got on the bandwagon and refused to play there again because, well you all know.

OP, are you in the UK? There’s your answer

It's getting virtually no coverage in the US. Only the People are covering the story

Why is this shocking story ignored by the media?
ReunitedThorns · 20/10/2022 11:58

Recently with a lot of stories in the UK press they don't lie over a story but deliberately leave a lot of facts out to create a particular narrative and change the story quite dramatically.

Not surprising that so many websites that post the full story face so many calls to be shut down.

This isn't related to conspiracy theories or anything. But for example if you do searches on the same websites about the people in the story you find all about their background from stories published years ago.

Stories like Mermaids/Stonewall etc aren't reported on much. The media's not lying, but the absence is almost as bad.

LaughingPriest · 20/10/2022 12:02

Jon Ronson did a Radio 4 series (you can still listen) called Things Fell Apart, and one episode was about the forming of Camp Trans after protesting the Women's Festival. I found it astonishing that this incident was completely left out of the piece.

Igmum · 20/10/2022 12:04

Missing that sounds amazing. What a wonderful experience. We need those spaces back.

MissingLesbianSpaces · 20/10/2022 20:06

Igmum, sadly the young lesbians don't take up the fights that our elder sisters had won. But the misogyny of the trans community did a number on lesbians by infiltrating the bars and group meetings. You only have to go on any online dating sites, choose lesbian seeking lesbian, and enjoy the sausage fest. Even sadder, the young lesbians who do not want to date TW think they can opt out of sexism and homophobia by "becoming men". Because apparently only a MAN can love a woman, sort of like in the 1950s

Axolotlquestions · 23/10/2022 16:53

@MissingLesbianSpaces , that sounds amazing, and how lucky you are that you got to go!

Of course, women having a good time without men is no longer acceptable, in the west. We must be moderated by the penis.
