Kids are horribly transphobic. Misgendering left right and centre. They don't even recognise non binariness! This is why they're all being Educated.

PomegranateOfPersephone · 15/10/2022 18:51

Who was the interviewer? Is he a C of E vicar?

I agree that infant age children especially are transphobic, they seem to have a real innate need to categorise by sex and are quite traditional about these things. Almost like they are primed to make sense of their world by nature.

WishingWell5 · 15/10/2022 19:07

It's so important to teach children properly. We have added all possible pronouns to my baby's first words book, on the people pages.
My son, however, is so ahead of his time. He has a favourite red top. It looks blue to you or I, but he said it identifies as red.

I have a feeling the interviewer was the newly ordained vicar who got sacked for being racist, because he publicly opposed Critical Race Theory.

Seriously?!

And thank you @Georgeskitchen I shall look up more details.

Sorry, I don't know how to make the link tidy.

Preaching to the choir.

It's hopeless if this sort of story is being carried only by the usual right wing media suspects. GC has become irrevocably associated with the right wing. Your average Guardian reader wouldn't ever look at GB News or any of the papers carrying these stories, on principle. Heaven alone knows how you'd get through to them, but this sort of thing just entrenches the belief that it's all right wing fundie nastiness.

He was on Triggernormetry.

Gotta love the CofE. Belief in God, the historicity of Jesus, or any kind of orthodox Christian belief is optional, Critical Race Theory is not.

Ultimately people like that are not reachable. The problem isn't association with the right wing, it's their blinkered tribalism, and in many cases their stupidity.

If they didn't justify it one way they would another.

WagnersFourthSymphony · 15/10/2022 23:42

Thing is, I reckon that unless we can harness the outrage from that side of the auditorium, there isn't a hope.

How can we do that? What simple story, not irremediably associated with the hard right, can float free and catch the woke imagination?

Bollocks.
I'm as left wing, Guardian reading, refugees welcome, anti Brexit as they come. Also gender critical. Facts are important.

SerenaVanDerWoodsenHumphrey · 15/10/2022 23:50

Dogs are also notoriously transphobic.

There was a famous post on Reddit a few years ago: a woman adopted a rescue dog who due to known and documented past abuse was very wary of men. She was living alone at the time but the dog was wary/avoidant of occasional male visitors such as her dad or brothers, and of male neighbours. Eventually she got into a serious relationship and her boyfriend moved in; dog was predictably unhappy/unfriendly. One day the boyfriend partner announced that he she/they identified as a woman, but the damned dog's attitude DID NOT CHANGE!!

Presumably you didn't dismiss ideas just because someone thought they were too closely associated with the right wing.

In which case you aren't really an example of that kind of person.

WagnersFourthSymphony · 16/10/2022 02:27

Well, there you go! You're someone who thinks 'facts are important' - and of course we all do.
Point is, where do people get their 'facts' from?
www.theguardian.com/media/2022/jun/01/bbc-article-trans-women-did-not-meet-accuracy-standards
And what do they perceive as 'facts'?
www.nme.com/news/music/billy-bragg-responds-after-j-k-rowling-accuses-him-of-misogyny-over-trans-comments-3328855

'Facts' means whatever people want it to mean. It's a horrible and scary truth (what is truth any more?) but we have to get used to the idea that words change their meaning through the sheer volume of usage.

Toddlers are quite open minded also. When I tell my DD it's night time and we need to sleep, look it's dark outside and it's 3am. She will say 'no it's time to get up, it's morning' and if she says it's morning, then it must be...

Ps your comment made me chuckle

Actually, the only thing that makes me really uncomfortable about my view (a view shared by loads of left wing feminists and lesbians) is when i look around at some the people I'm standing with. I'm sure I can't be the only person uncomfortable about that.
