Coerced transitions for lesbians in Iran

I just want to share this article from 2014 because I didn’t want to derail the Laetitia Ky thread but it has reminded me in light of the current protests in Iran that transition is being used as a tool to make lesbians disappear in Iran. They will say they are not forcing anyone but the penalty for being a lesbian is death. www.bbc.com/news/magazine-29832690
It worries me that the young women fighting back right now will be subjected to coerced transition for spurrious reasons. “Transition or death” is not a free choice. It would be interesting to see a more recent article especially with actual numbers of women affected by this.

Just read the BBC article, who'd have thought Mermaids would have so much in common with the Mullahs.

Indeed, OP. Grim.

And then there's Malta, which has self ID but some of the world's strictest abortion laws.

This is where the activism and money should be. Why are SW and MM etc wasting their time reporting mothers to the police for using the C word and getting women thrown off twitter for exposing their safeguarding failures. When they could be trying to help in countries where people can't be gay without fearing fir their lives.

Oh i forgot Iran has the best trans rights ever and should be the gold standard. According to PN anyway 🙄

Shows you just how much gay men and lesbians and bisexuals have been forgotten about.

Having looked into this further, they're doing 4000 ops a year. And the commentary on the more recent article in the Sun which was posted upthread earlier was all about the poor menz. Now I do think it's abhorrent that they're doing this to men and women but don't women need their father/brother's permission to leave the country there? So a man in this situation can leave and a woman can't. www.thesun.co.uk/news/10998169/iran-gay-people-gender-reassignment-surgery/
Four thousand LGB people erased every year. I can't get my head around how that isn't considered genocide.
I agree @Whatwouldscullydo where are all these "black trans lives matter" charities and activists who tried to hijack BLM to their own ends? Does that only apply to people who are voluntarily trans? I thought their mantra was that no one was voluntarily trans? Their logic is about as watertight as a tea towel.

This is 1000% oppression, don't be scared to comment on this because of the fake religion of this regime, there is nothing religious about them. This is not the culture of the citizens of Iran. Many of them are secular or from minority religions, most of them hate the regime. Please Be Our Voice!

It's not just lesbians, but gay men too. All are coerced into transitioning, and is the reason Iran carries out the second most sex change operations in the world.

TRAs cite that as how tolerant Iran is of transgender people. When in fact it is much darker than that, and shows how twisted the thinking is of TRAs.

Exactly, yes the article mentions this if you look at it.
