USA: Trans women must register for draft

When it matters to men and they think other men might attempt to avoid the draft by identifying as women, they make sure to close that loophole.

Personally I think the draft shouldn’t be sexist and both sexes be eligible to be drafted.

This is just beyond ridiculous. No one has a sex at birth, sex/biology isn't a thing and all proper scientists know this, everyone is the "gender" they say they are and anyone who says a TW isn't a woman deserves to have - at the very least - their career and social life destroyed. TW must have access to all women's spaces, sports, awards and provisions even those relating to biological need, even when it excludes and harms women on a grand scale.

It's like that strange UK loophole that if you're female you can't identify into inheriting a title/stately home by saying you're a man. But you are a man of course in every way! But also, you're not 🧐

Over 9,000 have combat patches….they’re going into front line combat.

Also a backfiring for TRAs who were OUTRAGED that trans people that wanted to be in the military would be considered not fit for service because of mental health issues (think it might have been Trump that delivered that one? And it might have been rescinded?).

No, you have it wrong. Transpeople in the middle of transitioning were by Executive Order declared not fit to join the military, or not fit for deployment if already in the military. The first was because they didn’t want transpeople joining the military just to get free healthcare to transition. The second was purely due to the physical fitness impacts of multiple major surgeries and the fact that proper aftercare is not available in theatres of operations (war zones).

No mention was made of ‘illness’ mental or otherwise.

Obtuse is in the eye of the beholder. I think you’re being obtuse. If they’re women out of uniform, then why do you think they change to men when in uniform? Does a military uniform make you a man? It’s your view that makes no sense.

I think your sex makes you male or female, man or woman. So wearing a skirt at any point has no bearing on it. They're not women out of uniform, which the government has acknowledged if they are saying that trans women will still be drafted. It's not willfully obtuse to say that humans can't change sex.

Just for different reasons. Initially sounded like you agreed with the above.

Yes I know. I was in the military. And the BDUs you linked to are not the dress uniform worn for “parade grounds.” There are subtle differences between mens and womens uniforms. Although they are currently designing unisex dress uniforms, even then I expect they will be tailored differently as even the BDUs are.

They’re not women, in or out of uniform.

That aside, the point you’re determined on missing (although I suspect you understand it perfectly) is that the current US Govt will treat trans women as “women” in civvy life, but will not extend that to draftees.

Actual women can’t currently be drafted in the US; ergo by making an individual subject to the draft, the US Govt recognises that that individual is male.

Incidentally, the whole “no deployment in the middle of transitioning” seems like a handy ‘get out of the war zone free’ card to any man that wants to use it.

Does transitioning by this rule only mean if the man’s actually started to undertake surgery? Does he get away with it if he just books in a date with a doctor? What if he’s just started socially transitioning at this point?

It doesn’t work like that. You need your COs permission for any non urgent medical procedures that might affect your fitness to deploy. This includes even things like lasik for your vision. So you submit a request for when you are in your home duty station window so that you can have the surgery and be through recovery before your next deployment window comes up.

Will they? Won't they have to wear what uniform they're given and told to wear? Genuine question. Does the US army allow biological males who identify as women to wear female uniforms? Are they allowed to sleep in the female quarters?
