Who you'd expect to have an opinion on all that's going on with sex and gender. Sometimes left wing or LGB people. Are they finding it all too conflicting so just bowed out?

Has anyone else noticed this or only me in my little circles?

I follow a few people on FB who link to articles relating to gender from red top papers like The Sun and no one ever comments. There is just silence. Yet in real life it has come up in conversation and everyone agrees that gender ideology should not be taught in schools etc, but the dance around to get to that point is crazy! Everyone is very cautious about what they say.

WhereAreWeNow · 20/09/2022 20:46

I haven't noticed. If anything, it seems my time line is more full of GC stuff than ever. Are you thinking of anyone in particular?

Jumpthehoneycomb · 20/09/2022 20:57

Yes, I often think this. I have Facebook friends who are usually very vocal about controversial issues - the Tories, Brexit, vaccinations, Scottish independence, the monarchy. But with this, it’s like the whole issue is just totally not talked about. I don’t know if people just aren’t aware or are too scared to post about it.

Violetparis · 20/09/2022 21:00

I often think this about celebs who are vocal about politics but don't seem to have an opinion on this issue.

Dragonskin · 20/09/2022 21:06

I would never put anything on 'normal' social media about my views because the TRAs will send it to your workplace and try and get you fired. That is why I laugh every time people say 'most people don't have an issue' because they fucking do but are not prepared to sacrifice careers or reputations (which I hope will come back to bite the people that think not saying anything about it is agreeing with the ideology)

IvyTwines · 20/09/2022 21:11

Same with Radio 4 comedy: this stuff looms large in many middle class households but they're strangely silent about it on air, so I suspect they know its bollocks but are terrified of their performatively TRA teenagers or walking on eggshells because of family friends who have 'transed' their offspring.

Lilithslove · 20/09/2022 21:29

I generally don't post opinions on anything on my Facebook because I don't like it when people use my page to argue. I just post the odd photo of days/ nights out, holidays and vegetables that I've grown.

I am aware of how dull that makes me.

rabbitwoman · 20/09/2022 21:38

I have written about this before but, I have noticed that JK Rowling features in the animated opening credits of Have I got news for you. As a statue that features in a tug of war between two factions that obviously represents the gender debate.

And yet she has never been mentioned.

So the people who commissioned and approved the credits are aware of the issues, are aware they are important enough to be featured in the credits, but....... Tumbleweed.......

Maybe its a hidden message......

CampervanKween · 20/09/2022 21:43

Everyone is terrified. Has there ever been anything like this before that is so obviously mad yet no-one dare call out? I can't remember anything similar.

Yep, very familiar, but then it grew up in USSR Hmm

Ndd135632 · 20/09/2022 21:49

Yep no one wants to mention it. Most know it’s bonkers. Some who are still in the ‘being kind’ space hold their head to one side and look aghast as you guffaw with your mate who has seen the emperors new clothes. It will eventually become a topic of convo. But not quite yet.

Just to say, the ones I'm thinking of (personal acquaintances) have withdrawn completely from SM.

It's not that they are still vocal about other stuff. They are completely (and uncharacteristically) silent.

I've really noticed this recently OP. I have quite a few TRA's on my social media, they're always posting pro mermaids shit and kill all terfs etc.

The last few weeks.......tumbleweed

I think it's happening, I think people are finally backing away. But like we've said all along. We've got receipts, no slithering away now.

I want full acknowledgement that they've massively misjudged it. Apologies to the women they've been screaming TERF at.

I'm looking at you Own Jones.

I won't hold my breath though.

Coyoacan · 21/09/2022 04:27

I'm one of those people with nothing to lose, so I post a lot about this issue on facebook. Always the same GC agreeing with me, but I think we have to break the silence, though I wouldn't ask anyone to risk their job

RoachTheHorse · 21/09/2022 07:32

I've closed my FB and my twitter. I am still interested in GC matters and will deal with any issues that arise in my real life should I need to.

However, the constancy of social media and never being switched of was harming my mental health. I was becoming disengaged in real life. I'm 4 weeks in to closing stuff down and I feel so much better.

It doesn't mean I don't still care very much about the issues.

Same. I also have a couple of friends on SM with enbee kids- posting my views would seem like an attack.
