Jennifer lahl makes some interesting comparisons between gender treatment and fertility treatment in this

Love these guys a lot. That was a brilliant linkup between several issues affecting women.

Now listening to the episode prior and struggling quite a lot with it. I never speed up podcasts but i might try it, just to see whether it makes it easier to follow - almost fell asleep on a dogwalk.

Was that the Bob Ostertag episode @Ikeabag ? That was strange!

VortexofBloggery · 22/09/2022 08:38

"Toxic empathy" really sums it up ( when they are talking about how the medical establishment now rushes to undermine parental authority, whereas in the past religion / culture of the family were usually accommodated).

DameMaud · 22/09/2022 08:49

Yes, agreed Vortex, that and the move from patient to customer struck me too

@Ikeabag yes. The Bob Ostertag one was hard to follow. The others are great. The Dutch protocol academics (De Vries) one was particularly fascinating and eye opening.

I thought the parallels between fertility and gender medicine was the most interesting part of this episode. After listening I watched Eggsploitation (2021). I'm probably naive but I am completely aghast how this industry can continue to operate when there is no regulation, no research, no follow up of participants. If you've not watched Eggspoitation it is well worth a watch.

DameMaud · 22/09/2022 10:08

Thanks @Signalbox I'll watch that next.
Yes, it was an eye opener and an angle I'd not previously heard explored- at least not with so much clarity. There are so many broad threads to the issue of medicalising 'gender issues' it can be overwhelming to try and make sense of it I find!

Second this.

Just watched this (👆 @Signalbox ) Yes. So many parallels; lupron, lack of follow up/research, denial of dangers, uninformed consent.... Jennifer Lahl is a rare and powerful voice of medical ethics and welfare of women and girls (and a self-taught film maker which is impressive and testament to her tenacity and drive to highlight these issues) Absolutely needs more views.
