I hadn't actually had cause to look at the site for several years now, but prompted by a mention I just went to have a look ...

thefword.org.uk/2022/08/goodbye-for-now/

'The concerns of feminism go beyond sexism alone, though. As they should. Today in the UK politicians are tripping over themselves to make sure we know that they are transphobic, foodbank use is higher than ever and the police continue to use their powers to disproportionately target people of colour. Until we have overcome racism, disablism, homophobia, transphobia, classism, ageism and all other forms of prejudice, feminism will still be needed.'

It's almost funny.

I don't know, lots of ideologies stumble on for decades without ever coming to terms with their own internal contradictions.

SapphireSeptember · 16/09/2022 16:55

Oh joy, they're 'sex work positive' as well as everything else. Hmm I'm sure we'll cope without them.

Love the Magdalen Berns video, she was a fabulous voice of reason and is deeply missed. 💔

I once thought that the new intersectional (all things matter) feminism is like demanding that all physicians in all specialties should attend to all illnesses, even though training to make them competent in that is impossible. Feminist analysts and researchers are treated that way by the fourth wave.

So someone specialising in kidney disease would be criticised if they don't also address heart disease and so on.

It's whataboutism taken to a high level and viewed as a relevant criticism, i.e., because forms of suffering in this world are many, nobody should focus on only one specific type of -ism. But this critique does not apply to other social justice movements than feminism.

TRAs, say, are not expected to spend resources on fighting poverty, in general, or racism, in general.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/09/2022 18:50

But this critique does not apply to other social justice movements than feminism.

Yes, was saying this to a friend the other day.

Sazzasez · 16/09/2022 20:24

It’s the “feminism is everybody’s Mum” attitude.

BlueBrush · 16/09/2022 21:51

They should have called it "So long and thanks for all the clownfish"

Oh @Ereshkigalangcleg please tell me you made that up yourself. That one definitely needs to get used again!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/09/2022 21:56

It's a riff on Douglas Adams obviously, but yes that particular version is mine Grin

Feminism is for everyone ??? 🙄🙄🙄

I noticed the new WE BELIEVE sign no longer believes women’s rights are human rights… the new narrative is feminism is for everyone… although feminism by its very definition and intention is for females. But you are right, this isn’t about erasing women’s rights at all! Cool!

Honestly, those signs!

It is like they are trying to make a joke of themselves. Just a bunch of Orwellian propaganda statements, most of them actual paradoxes and all of them representing movements that are full of incoherent ideas.

It's a signal to believers, isn't it?

Thanks for sharing this.

Is Everyday Men’s Rights Activism, sorry Feminism, still going?

still love this classic

Just looked and it’s still going, barely as a pop up begging ad appears, and it’s as painful as ever. Basically, absolutely everything and everyone except the staff of EF are racist, homophobic, transphobic and problematic. They don’t seem that fussed about actual misogyny and sexism, though. Ever thus.

I remember a MNer wrote one, may have been that one Grin

Article from 2003 complaining that Harry Potter / JK Rowling are not feminist enough. 😆

This is my favourite ever EF article. It's amazing.

5. Is There a Limit to the Number of Genders a Person Can Have?

No. Embracing multigenderism means refusing to limit the ways we can understand ourselves.

A person can have as many genders as they can conceive of, with culturally appropriative identities being the only exceptions (see point #8).

6. What Pronouns Should I Use for Multigender People?

The answer to this is the same as for everyone: Ask, and then usee^ whatever pronouns you’re told to use.

And, specifically, use all of them.
If someone gives you more than one pronoun to use, don’t just pick the one that’s easy for you and ignore the rest. Use them all, and if someone asks you to use one more than the others, do that, too.

It’s hard to believe that isn’t parody. Future generations will look at articles like that in the way we look at people who thought that eating frogspawn would cure the plague. Extraordinary and hard to believe anyone was ever so deluded.

MrsJamin · 17/09/2022 18:08

It sounds like they talked themselves into not needing to exist any longer. Reminds me of the crap The Guilty Feminist spouted- I don't know how centring men can be feminist but somehow they manage it.

From link, it says "To keep your feminist fires burning while we are having a pause, check out these awesome groups and sites:"

openDemocracy
PinkNews

Pink News, that well known feminist website?

There was an MN thread on gal dem, who the F Word also list. Here's the old thread:

Soft porn included in "recommended resources" for secondary school kids in Wales

http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/amibeing_unreasonable/4163818-Soft-porn-included-in-recommended-resources-for-secondary-school-kids-in-Waless_

The OP:

“I have seen it all. The Women's Equality Network in Wales and produced a "toolkit" to celebrate international women's day which links to resources from Gal Dem which includes a soft porn video where
the actress says "how do you want to f**k tonight Daddy". Also on the site are tips for "kinky zoom orgies"

This was also linked in there with a warning not to click if kids were nearby:

“Click on the SSA tweet and you will see links to the pack which includes a link to this site.
<a class="break-all" href="http://go.mumsnet.com/?xs=1&id=470X1554755&url=gal-dem.com" target="blank">http://go.mumsnet.com/?xs=1&id=470X1554755&url=gal-dem.comm
Which gives you a link to this video. https://gal-dem.com/shorties-watch-as-a-cam-girl-session-becomes-a-funny-meet-cutee_/“

One of the most overwhelming conclusions from all this clusterfuck that hits me, is how utterly old fashioned it all is, as in reinforcing gender stereotypes that my generation left behind in the 1970s. Totally regressive.

Says it's down when I clicked it! Tis a shame, I'd love to read that! Is she feminist enough for them now I wonder? 😁

Shortpoet · 19/09/2022 01:27

Try the link a couple of times. A couple of times I clicked and got a site down message. Tried again a few seconds later and got through

SapphireSeptember · 19/09/2022 02:25

Ooh, thank you! I'm in now! 😁
