More good news!

"The WRU Board voted this evening (Wed), to pass the amended policy which also aligns with the already published stance of other governing bodies such as the Irish Rugby Football Union and the Rugby Football Union.

The new policy means contact rugby for players in the female category is limited to those whose sex was recorded as female at birth. This is a departure from the previous policy which allowed for participation in the women’s game for transgender women depending on the outcome of a thorough medical process including testosterone tests prior to registration to play."

Good.

BellaAmorosa · 07/09/2022 22:33

This is much, much better than the previous policy using the testosterone criteria, but the statement uses the phrase "assigned male/female at birth" 😡
And also "recorded female at birth" does not exclude wrongly sexed males with DSDs. Great that

BettyFilous · 07/09/2022 22:33

Phew! Sanity is returning.

I still get a Shock when I think that these bloody idiots actually decided that born males could play in the women's game.
Still - must be positive and reach out across that golden bridge.....

WomaninBoots · 07/09/2022 22:49

Yes. Welcome back to sanity Welsh Rugby.

Helleofabore · 07/09/2022 22:49

I wonder if other countries will follow suit now, of what until the court case is decided?

Hoardasurass · 07/09/2022 23:35

Well that just leaves Scottish Rugby I wonder if they will have the balls to go against sturgeon

I believe huge thanks are due to Fair Play for Women for helping WRU to understand the science - especially in the face of First Minister Mark Drakeford (and the majority of Senedd Members) who insists that TWAW and that inclusion should trump everything. And thanks to Merched Cymru and Women's Rights Network Wales who've been fighting this fight for a long time now.
Step by step.

Thank goodness!

GreenClock · 08/09/2022 19:16

This is a relief.

The chap who plays Isaac in Sex Education, a wheelchair user, is proof of the potential dangers of playing rugby. Imagine if women/girls were forced to play against males. The consequences could be catastrophic.

Igmum · 08/09/2022 19:19

Definitely good news. Well done WRU and all those women with facts

"Recent peer reviewed research provides evidence that there are physical differences between those whose sex was assigned as male and those as female at birth, and advantages in strength, stamina and physique brought about by male puberty are significant and retained even after testosterone suppression"

as Basil Fawlty said :" Cant we get you on Mastermind, Sybil? Next contestant Sybil Fawlty from Torquay, special subject the bleeding obvious"
