Golfer set to become the first trans woman to win Ladies PGA Tour Card

From what little I know of golf it's another game where there is a huge performance difference between the sexes

It's all about how hard you can hit it - if you're a bloke (with or without a dress) you can likely hit it harder than a woman. Fewer strokes to get it to the green. You win. Him claiming he can hit it less far since transitioning (which I don't believe) doesn't even it up. He's obviously not good enough to play against the men and so decided to cheat and play against women instead. The women should all refuse to play.

CompleteGinasaur · 20/08/2022 15:33

Probably Liar Thomas with a quick name change. There's a lot of money in women's golf now, last year's U.S. Open winner took home 1.8m dollars..

Igmum · 20/08/2022 15:33

The problem with putting the onus on the women this person is competing against is that they would be reviled and accused of not being able to compete. The sports federations need to step in to stop this. It is cheating plain and simple.

CompleteGinasaur · 20/08/2022 15:34

This year's, sorry!

Totally agree, but so few sports seem to have the balls (no pun intended) to actually make the right decision. So it leaves it up to the women competitors. Absolutely appalling.

On the bright side I've just looked at your Twitter link and the comments are almost entirely anti TW. Sport has the power to peak like nothing else it seems. A very clear message is getting through.

GoodWeatherforDucks · 20/08/2022 17:12

@Igmum

While I’m glad that the comments under this tweet were mostly on the side of women’s sport for women only, it’s good to remember that Twitter can be a bit of an echo chamber and the people following this account would have similar views to the account holder. Unless of course, it gets retweeted by a TRA, and then all of their followers will have the chance to pounce upon it, and interpret it according to their own special sort of ‘logic’.

334bu · 20/08/2022 17:42

Even if this person's swing speed has dropped by 15mph, this is still less than average difference between make and female pro golfers. Also makes no mention of how far this person drives, as males outlive women by at least 40 yards.

"'I can still hit a golf ball 280 yards after seven YEARS of hormone therapy - there's a lot of testosterone left over!' Caitlyn Jenner doubles down on criticism of Lia Thomas being allowed to swim as a woman and calls for stricter NCAA rules
Caitlyn Jenner said Wednesday said rules on trans athletes competing need to be stricter

At the moment, the NCAA allows trans athletes to compete if they have taken hormone replacement therapy for a year

Doctors say it's not enough to reverse the physical advantages that develop during puberty

Jenner, 72, started transitioning in 2015 and says she still has a physical advantage on the golf course

She said she 'doesn't blame Lia' but that the rules ought to be stricter

Thomas wants to continue competing and is eyeing a run at the Olympics.

Not surprising that as a man this person was not able to make the male tour.

tobee · 20/08/2022 17:58

God it's just so much a game of whack a mole.

Musomama1 · 20/08/2022 18:20

I hope the ladies on the tour are having a word with each other. Some sports are showing to be responsive to lobbying and the science.

Although wish they would just do the decent thing and ban TW on the basis of being male rather than male advantage but I'm splitting heirs.

BigBobBoots · 20/08/2022 18:28

Interesting. Earlier this year there was a headline about a female golfer who said in press interview that her period was the reason she fluffed the final.
I can't remember her name, but I did think her comment was preempting the discussion about men playing golf against women.
It's not just the strength advantage. The menstrual cycle has effects on the mobility of the spine, which will have a detrimental impact on your golf swings.
Obviously not an issue for natal males.

HairyKitty · 20/08/2022 18:45

I think I remember a news article in the past 2 years where a transwoman top golfer did not believe they should play in the female comp due to continuing physical advantage, and continued to play in the make comp, dress and all. And I thought good for you, we need more of this. I wonder who it was? Would be great if they could speak up now.

HairyKitty · 20/08/2022 18:52

Gah I’m ready sorry when I searched I could only find the Daily Mail article. Very refreshing, I hope this transwoman still has the same views.

Judy Murray has said this is not right:

"No. Not fair at all. Protect women’s sport. Listen to the facts, the scientists and the medics. This is wrong."

My 5 yo niece is learning to play golf. Perhaps someone should tell her not to bother as even this sport is being ruined?! Angry "Give it up now, pointless" what a message for young girls.

Was it Mianne Bagger? Danish Australian who campaigned successfully to get golf competition regulations changed in early 00’s so they could compete in the female category.

Has now realised that no males should be competing against females and says it publicly.

Yes. The sunlight is fantastic.

Bring it, Hailey!

Let's see exactly how much impact this tiny, tiny minority has on every discipline in women's sport.

twitter.com/LBC/status/1561278236016918528?s=20&t=-Sm-_PBV7WZ81y-1I2OlhQ

Andrew Castle on LBC interviewed Felix Fern (remember slut baby in the London protest). I have no idea why. This joker has brought in PCOS as a comparator to transitioned males. It is tedious.

Helleofabore · 22/08/2022 15:53

Mind you.... if you didn't know any of the background on transitioned males in female categories, Fern will have certainly caused many people to have their interest piqued. It was really a good example why people think these extreme activists are not quite winning hearts outside their already established supporters.

I am seeing the same pattern every time. Disrespect for the interviewer, while demanding that they are respected, continuously talking over others, verging on or having tantrums.

I have changed my mind, I think that Fern should be interviewed everywhere!

PeriodBro · 22/08/2022 16:17

Yes! Let's hear more from Fern!

Was it Mianna Bagger? Apologies if I've spelled the name wrong.

INTJ · 23/08/2022 22:55

Males have about twice the upper body strength of women so yes there's an excellent reason for male and female segregation in most sports.

I worked out from the American army recruitment data that the average transwoman has greater upper body strength than about 99% of women.
