Alex Sobel (Labour Shadow Cabinet) visiting Mermaids

After everything that’s emerged about the risks associated with the pharmaceutical regime Mermaids promote for young children, and after the number of occasions on which this charity has shown they don’t understand safeguarding, Sobel, a member of Labour’s actual front bench, feels it’s a “pleasure” to visit Mermaids, congratulate them on receiving an award, and meet and be photographed with Susie Green.

I’m proudly voting Tory.

Each to their own, eh?

Don't blame you at all.

PronounssheRa · 10/08/2022 19:30

Alex sobel also thinks women shouldn't have single sex spaces.

So what's his back story?
Misogynist?
Young trans identifying relative?

Both ????

achillestoes · 10/08/2022 19:44

Apparently he knows someone they’ve ‘helped a lot’.

Abso-bloody-lutely 👏👏👏

He also tried to get the Women and Equalities team (Badenoch, specifically) to make a statement about their ‘progress’ in making institutions use the invented title “Mx”, a title which is apparently “gender-neutral” but which only female people ever seem to use.

It's curious how common this is amongst Labour MPs.

It is.

I have met Alex Sobel a couple of times and he’s a bit slimy yeah, but ffs, voting Tory is not a vote that will benefit women! The majority of single parents are women and single parent families are overwhelmingly poorer. With the cost of living crisis things are going to get really really hard for them. Voting for a party that want to make the rich richer, the poor poorer and sell off the countries assets to the highest bidder is NOT going to help women in general!

achillestoes · 10/08/2022 20:09

‘but ffs, voting Tory is not a vote that will benefit women!’

Go and tell him. Tell him women who would otherwise be ‘expected’ (by you? By him? By themselves?) to vote Labour believe women deserve to be respected as autonomous humans, and kids deserve to be left alone to grow up.

Come and tell us what he says.

Alex sobel also thinks women shouldn't have single sex spaces.

Alex Sobel thinks women shouldn't have boundaries then?

I think males like Sobel are creeps. I wouldn't vote for him or ever want to share a space with him.

He is happy to enable abuse 🚩

Abusers don't wear special signs. Women can only work with available evidence to know which males are trustworthy.

Tiphaine · 10/08/2022 20:13

The only testicular Mx user I've seen is Edward Lord.

Ramblingnamechanger · 10/08/2022 20:16

Happy for violent men to be in womens prisons too.

BrokeAsABone · 10/08/2022 20:19

I hate Tory, but no, I don't blame you one bit.😞

MrsOvertonsWindow · 10/08/2022 20:20

Agree with other posters TammyOne. Go and tell Sobel that women are entitled to boundaries and that safeguarding ought to be a priority for MPs - not cosying up to extremist lobby groups. As women and parents many?most ? of us would like to vote Labour again but can't while they're caught up while men like him (and his female counterparts) are silent about the Cass review and uncaring about vulnerable children and women's rights.
Please - go and tell him as he's the problem, not women on here.

Arrogant twats like Sobel bank on women voting against their own interests, and for Labour, because they're The Goodies.

He needs to cop on and realise it's not for us to hold our noses and vote for him - he needs to, you know, actually represent us.

I am voting Tory until Labour wake the fuck up. That's on them, not me.

BrokeAsABone · 10/08/2022 20:45

Tea I think you're onto something....men bank on women being more bothered about everything else's rights and wellbeing than our own and some of the more revolting ones conspire to use our conditioning against us so that abusive men benefit.

How evil would a man have to be? And how commonplace?😞

achillestoes · 10/08/2022 20:52

The demands we vote against our own interests are hilarious. We have so little power. One vote, every five years. Ten or fifteen opportunities in a lifetime, maybe, to pick people who will represent us.

Sobel has all the power. He can be better. Educate himself. Please don’t demand I do his work for him.

I tried complaining about him after he said people who want single sex spaces are bigots. Got nowhere, just sent round the houses every turn then ignored. Not suprised he's a mermaids fan but you'd think he'd see it's maybe not the best PR anymore.

What a fucking disgrace. Hope all his female constituants get to see that reply. How dare he shout bigot.

You say that as if you think Labour will be any better.

In many ways, I see parallels between The Labour Party and Stonewall. Both are organisations that came into being with a fire in their belly for justice. Both are pale shadows of what they once were, now working against the interests of their original core constituency. Stonewall abandoned the LGB to court the TQ+ and the money they'd bring in. Labour abandoned the working classes to court the middle classes and the money they'd bring in. Both organisations are riding on the reputations they built pre-abandonment, the reputations that are fooling some of the people still. But to paraphrase Janet Jackson - "what have they done for us lately?"

If you're looking for Labour to be any better than the Tories, that's a false hope.

I do not see my financial situation improving under labour. This means if labour come into power women will remain poor and they will also lose their boundaries.
I don't see the point of it.
