Recruiting for women or women with penises?

I saw this job ad today and immediately wondered about the + detailed, regarding the people they particularly want applications from.

I'm guessing if a man applies who identifies as a woman, then their box is ticked. Lovely ladies working in the team!

I do wonder how this will skew equal ops recruitment stats in the next few years…….. Particularly if male-dominated industries looking to even up their ratios, are easier for men to get into if they are women………

Better for employers too, as no pesky maternity leave and likely fewer childcare responsibilities to worry about………

They could have just said 'anyone who isn't a straight white man'.

How big is this company? If, as we're led to believe, 1% or less of the population falls under the T category (don't know about Q+) then only up to 1 in 100 employees needs to be T for this category to be representative of the rest of society.

They are saying they want to hire people who are under represented in the industry of bike mechanics not underrepresented within their company.
If this one company hires a higher percentage of underrepresented people then they are doing their part to help balance out the representation across the industry.

I very much doubt that male people are "underrepresented in the industry of bike mechanics"

Mind you, if they go with a TW, they've increased the number of trans staff and the number of women. That's clearly the way to go.

A serious question; does that mean they get double counted then?

I think they just get counted as "women". Meaning that a 10 person company employing 5 men and 5 transwomen can count themselves as being totally gender balanced 🙄

But doesn't that mean that the T community end up being totally erased? They'll never get counted anywhere if they're only ever counted as their acquired gender. And they'll end up being totally underrepresented in any diversity equity counts.

Even better, a straight man applying under the name "Barbara" can tick both "woman" and "LGBTQ+", killing two birds with one stone.
