Surrey County Council EDI policy action plan.

Any Surrey Mumsnetters (or anyone interested in bad EDI policies.)

Surrey County Council are updating their EDI policies and have an "action plan". Within the action plan they state that they are introducing a new "Trans at Work Policy that supports the trans community and balances the need of all other protected characteristic groups"

However the demographic info at the end of the survey only asks about "gender identity" and fails to ask about "sex" or "gender reassignment" so I am suspicious that they are not "balancing the need of all other protected characteristic groups" when they are failing even to ask demographic questions about them.

It won't hurt to have a few women reminding them that "belief" is also a protected characteristic and this includes those GC women who work for them. It is important that any balancing includes balancing those who do not believe in "gender identity" against any trans policy.

Survey closes on 4th July and can be found here...

Done.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 02/07/2022 15:49

Done. That was a satisfying opportunity! Don’t ask about sex but do ask gender identity- ffs

AnnieLou12 · 02/07/2022 15:55

Done.

I notice the sex pay gap is not mentioned nor those pesky women when it comes to domestic violence shelters!

peonyred · 02/07/2022 16:09

Just done it, made the point twice that asking about my biological sex should be of more use when it comes to providing council services than which "gender" I identify as.

bolleauxnouveau · 02/07/2022 16:15

Done.

Also commented on no mention of the sex pay gap, and as for gender, I'm a biological woman, (gender identity seems based on outdated stereotypes).

I'm astonished that reality has stretched so far but I shouldn't be surprised, many people have spent the last couple of years socialising in virtual reality, and here I am on mumsnet again after so many years away.

Also completed. Made the point that an EDI policy should be focused on protected characteristics yet they've only included 6/9 plus added in gender/trans yet missed out 3 including sex, which was more relevant to the services they needed to provide.

Brilliant thanks everyone. At least that’ll give them something to think about. I’ll be looking out for the new policy. My hopes aren’t that high!

Done, for 'gender identity' used Other stating Woman: Adult Human Female, and that my belief system was my religion, not gender id. Also mentioned the Equality Act protected characteristics, it seemed a suitable opportunity to mention them; though their website did have the correct list last time I looked

Has any one come across a decent EDI policy or wording to encourage the PoCs are considered?
