He used paypal for donations. When he asked paypal what he did wrong, they told him he'd need to submit a subpoena to find out.

His etsy store included the following slogans: Reality's Last Stand and a graphic that said: Thought Criminal

Etsy explained that his store was permanently closed "after a comprehensive review for glorifying hatred or violence towards protected groups."

There seems to be a substantial power asymmetry when it comes to a weighting of complaints from the sacred caste that is plausibly orchestrating those complaints.

Yes there is. Colin doesn’t deserve this. Yet etsy. Has stuff on it like kill terfs 🤷‍♀️

The power asymmetry in getting things and people banned and cancelled and erased is so interesting! Especially as it happens at the same time as the many arguments that all power is on this side.

Very similar to the power asymmetry in getting articles published. The side which supposedly has now power has much more success in that.

I believe we are watching a natural experiment in the ways the female sex got subjugated in this trans debate, from how it's only the female sex which gets erased, not the male sex, to how it's almost impossible for complaining women to get anything changed except extremely slowly and at great mental and monetary expense.

Also, the way many women are contributing to this by prioritising kindness and by ignoring the maintenance of healthy boundaries.

Etsy has at least in the past sold explicitly woman-hating merchandise. I complained (three or so years ago), didn't matter to Etsy.

But it could be that there is an astroturf attack by several activists at the same time, and that's what causes the cancellations, even if there's no reason for it. I can see how someone busy might decide that if this really does bother twenty people within some short time frame, we better cancel the account.

In other words, astroturfing works.

@EmbarrassingHadrosaurus

I believe the only way to make sense of these sorts of actions is to assume there is another agenda at work,a social experiment to determine what messages work best to get people to accept, if not actually rally behind, ever increasing encroachments of free speech.

It would appear that, to the many other words that are now commonly seriously 'misunderstood' - or more likely manipulated by those with a stark agenda, we can now add 'hatred' and 'violence'.

It would seem to me that people who naturally consider 'somebody having and calmly expressing a different opinion from mine' as 'hatred' or violence' must be phenomenally privileged and/or powerful people, as it strongly suggests that they have been fortunate enough to live a life hitherto completely devoid of any actual hatred or violence.

Therefore, maybe these privileged people should not seek to abuse their privilege by deliberately trampling on those who very much do not have anything like that same level of privilege.

Musomama1 · 11/06/2022 21:59

And yet they are selling TERF stuff?? And items inciting actual violence against 'terfs', that is women.

Easy one to boycott, but this is the US store right? Otherwise I'd email a complaint.

But I tell you, the continually biased meting out of 'punishment' for wrong think is only stirring up a backlash as more people see it for what it is.
