Following on the Telegraph's investigation yesterday that revealed the civil service recognise over 100 genders, today's article shows the police recognise 67. Way to go police persons - gotta catch up on that pesky civil service.
Seven forces allow criminal suspects to be recorded as non-binary and two others allow suspects to describe their gender as "unknown and unspecified".
Lisa Townsend, the police and crime commissioner for Surrey criticsed "the ludicrous" approach as it "corrupts data" and puts the potential criminal before the victim. "Accurate reporting and data is so important"she said. "We can't police by anecdote".
Indeed.
