Sorry if this is already on here somewhere

Such a confusing story. More than just anime though. Absolute avoidance of pronouns re the child, 'Ava' happy to identify himself as male when covering up his crime, child already distant and anxious. Sounds like yet another one story of grooming an 'egg'. Gross.

Coyoacan · 19/05/2022 14:52

What a poorly written article and a low sentence for abduction. I know that is not your point

Lavenderlast · 19/05/2022 15:08

Wonder if this has been recorded as a crime by a female 😐

More importantly - child abduction is only two years in jail?! I’d throw away the key.

KarenLovesRosario · 19/05/2022 15:10

I felt so sick reading this I did write the title very quickly, should have spent more time, it's done now though. Yes of course this is about much more than anime, it's just anime continues to link to grooming/paedophilia. Yes horrifically low sentence for abduction

@Lavenderlast
The sentence I can't even come to terms with what a sick judge

That article was muddy I'm glad they had photos.
Only two years and no sex offence recorded?

BootsAndRoots · 19/05/2022 15:40

The main question is the name that will be put down on the sex offender's register.

It's known that their changing of name and "gender" make it difficult for people find these people on the register.

None, because this seems to have 'just' been a child abduction rather than sexually motivated? What precisely the motivation actually was though is rather unclear.

I just noticed this. Definitely talk of gender going on. I wonder if "Ava" is now in a woman's prison. www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/child-12-blanket-thrown-over-27004124.amp

2 years is absolutely disgusting

The word from the defense "Misguided" to describe someone who kidnapped a child who screamed over the phone and is obviously not surprisingly deeply traumatised just makes me feel utterly sick "Misguided"

The article seems to say to be clear that there was no evidence of sexual intent (and I don't just mean they overlooked the obvious because there wasn't glaring proof they couldn't ignore, the article suggests they went to some effort to try and establish if that was the purpose).

So, reading between the lines of that Mirror article, I wonder if this is a case of Ava playing on normal adolescent insecurities and grooming the child into identifying as transgendered and convincing them to "run away" with Ava and Trevor. But the kid then realised it wasn't actually the escape from a horrible life that they thought it was it was a seedy trip in a car with two men who were not stable or at all aware of what a 12 year old actually needs.

Which would be in line with the safeguarding concerns people on here have had about the grooming role of transactivists who encourage questioning teens to talk to them not their parents and LGBT groups who mix adolescents with 20-something adults as though adolescents aren't vulnerable and nothing could possibly go wrong.

GoldenGirdle · 19/05/2022 19:15

Pah!

The suggestion that 'Ava' Jones was misleading the police by telling them he was called David!

HairyBum · 19/05/2022 19:16

Only 2 years each!!! What a joke

bagsforlife20 · 19/05/2022 19:24

That is the most terribly written article I have read. Hard to decipher what actually happened.

Poor girl must have been terrified in that long drive to wales. Did the police rescue her fairly quickly then?

what a joke that the other man said he was against it and tried to distance himself. he literally drove a random child all the way from Wigan to wales, he could have let her go to safety at any point during that long journey

Needmoresleep · 19/05/2022 22:40

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10832621/Pair-jailed-two-years-abducting-Manchester-child.html

The Mail has quite a lot of disturbing detail. Parents concerned about grooming and threatened to take legal action. Access to child was through an interest in anime and gender. This was a 12 year old and an adult.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/05/2022 22:51

Daily Mail's picture editor earning their money well here.

FemaleAndLearning · 20/05/2022 00:34

The child had a lucky escape it would seem. Misguided indeed. It is strange how they don't use pronouns for the child, why would that be? If the two men are homosexual then the child is most likely a boy?
I do wish they wouldn't use identifies as female. It's bad enough men can say they identify as women but when they use female it is absurd.
I just want it to stop.

GiraffeInTheSky · 20/05/2022 02:36

She?!

When will they stop misrepresenting these predators?

Needmoresleep · 20/05/2022 03:37

Blame IPSO and their guidance to editors.

The Mail picture editor is a whizz at finding pictures that highlight the absurdity of some of the text.

GiraffeInTheSky · 20/05/2022 04:18

Just unbelievable. A male paedophile abucts a child and they are calling him "she?"

Why?!?

FunnyTalks · 20/05/2022 07:32

The one positive about the offensive guidelines for referring to male criminals as women is that it draws our attention every single time. Male pattern crimes are so hideously common, but stick the word "woman" in the headline and its instant clickbait.

Perhaps it's unfair to focus on the subset of violent males who say they have a gender ID. But gender ID is used to get lower sentences, in women's jails, disrupt safeguarding procedures and obscure information to the detriment of victims and potential victims.

And all of this has come about because trans activists (most of whom aren't even trans) have lobbied for it. I am honestly questioning whether their aim ever had the wellbeing of trans people at its heart.
