TDs getting it wrong about trans issues again in Ireland

(If someone can tell me how to do a share token that would be great)

Stella O'Malley - a psychotherapist who has spoken out against the medicalisation of gender non conforming children - has been misrepresented by some arsehole TD Mick Barry who didn't understand what she was actually saying.

Ms O’Malley is an extremely controversial figure among the transgender community in Ireland and internationally,” Barry alleged.
“...she recently messaged on a gay rights advocacy group, which excludes trans people, that ‘I don’t think you should have any empathy, and I haven’t asked anybody to have any empathy and I don’t think you should have empathy or sympathy’.”

He added: “There should be no role for views such as this in sex education in our education system. This highlights the need for legislation on objective and factual sex education in schools.”

When actually she was talking about AGP individuals in women's spaces.

The recording of the Twitter Spaces conversation, from which Barry quoted, shows that O’Malley was asked if women who are concerned about losing women-only spaces should have empathy for autogynephiles — a designation disputed by many in the trans community that describes men aroused by the thought of being female.

In her initial response, O’Malley said: “I don’t think you need to give any empathy at all, at all, none. Zero. I think I should, because I’m trying to understand them.”

I despair at how weak and susceptible our politicians are to this nonsense .

Thanks, that's a great read . Wow what a mess

Abhannmor · 20/05/2022 13:18

@Solidarityovercharity You're right he is in Solidarity. Their sole TD. For now.

My understanding, and am happy to be proven wrong, is that parliamentary privilege would only cover him if he had made the claim in the Dail prior to publishing the tweet.

Yep consitutional protection for a country at war or at peace.

Handy if you admitted you stole from the public purse or were caught pissed and driving.

But a speaker would have to be carefull upon repeating themselves

13 The members of each House of the Oireachtas shall, except in case of treason as defined in this Constitution, felony or breach of the peace, be privileged from arrest in going to and returning from, and while within the precincts of, either House, and shall not, in respect of any utterance in either House, be amenable to any court or any authority other than the House itself

I think he did make the claim in the Dáil before he made the tweet, does that let him off scot free so?

It basically would, as an statements even knowingly false ones would not be actionable by a person named in a Dail speach by a TD. It would be up to the rules (eg if it is made to mislead the House) and the other TDs to take corrective action.

However the male child sex offender and the male who is currently up in court are both recorded in the Dail record as being held in the Womens Prison.
Thats 3 (out of 800ish) to date held in Limerick during his time as TD and any woman jailed for poverty related crimes in his constituency would likely be sent there rather than to Dublin.

Is he in agreement that a legal female penis-haver in the general prison population of the Womans Prison is not an ongoing problem?
Is he agreeing that a female Prison Officer should be obliged under her terms of employment to strip search a male?
Or that a male Prison Officer should be obliged under his terms of employment to strip search a female? Because the Prison Officers are not happy about that.

Would he stand up and confirm that he agrees with the legislation to place a legal male vagina-haver in the general prison population the Mens Prison?

The State paid for a whole medical assessment which concluded that a person, who met a individual with gender dysphoria decided to use that individuals clinical diagnosis as an "identity" to minipulate others.
That's one of those things which never happen.

The State also proved that having a history of violence with a criminal record is no barrier to filling out paperwork and being issued GRC. New name, new passport etc. I can trust that eg a child sex offender would give both names on a Garda vetting application.

€5,000 fine for a haircut which without a GRC would not have been actionable. Male/female and want to engage in sexually harrasssment in a work place .....

Women reduced in law to people who bleed with needs. But its all about proper sex education in schools.

@Mandodari did he really think that when examining the invasion of a recently independant nation that the general Irish public would support the invading nation?
In Cork?
The Independant Republic of CORK???? 🙄😂🤣🤣🤣

Solidarityovercharity · 21/05/2022 11:39

The Independent Republic of Cork are hearing all about it with Mick Clifford's brilliant article in the Irish-Cork Examiner 😀www.irishexaminer.com/opinion/columnists/arid-40877765.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

Mandodari · 21/05/2022 11:51

That's good to hear. The more people that get to see his dingbat behaviour the better.

Thanks for that, at least it's getting some mainstream coverage in Ireland. According to that article, Stella has sent him a solicitors letter, not sure what effect that will have or if it makes a difference.

Another dissappointing aspect is the quote from Michael Martin, evasive and mealy mouthed as always - 'there has to be proper understanding and empathy in issues pertaining to trans people and the whole LGBTQI community'.
^^
I doubt he even knows that the issues are, he just parrots the usual bullshit.

Where's the empathy for a woman who was slandered in public?

Sharon Keogan's Seanad speech. Worth a watch regardless of whether you agree with her on other issues or not.
Solidarityovercharity · 22/05/2022 04:16

Good for Sharon Keogan!

What a travesty if it does! Amazing how this self identified paragon of something or other appears to be using their privileged position to smear Irish citizens.

Solidarity with the lads, more like. The views towards women, which gave rise to the mother and baby 'homes' and the Magdalen Laundries have now been dickied-up as progressive. No wonder these fellows lap it up.

Cailleach1 · 22/05/2022 08:00

And, kudos to Sharon Keogan.
