That's an excellent and powerful article. Thank you Alex.

I'm struggling with who to vote for this week. I usually vote Green, SNP or Labour, depending on the election (taking into account PR, tactical voting against Tories, etc). I'm a Green member but am seriously considering leaving after Lorna Slater's latest comments. Who do GC Scots vote for? The Tories?

gardenhelpneeded · 03/05/2022 06:54

Tories here although it sticks in my craw. Our local candidate seems decent at least and replied to my email about the issue. Unlike Labour and SNP who didn’t bother.

gardenhelpneeded · 03/05/2022 06:55

PS yes a fantastic article

Hoardasurass · 03/05/2022 07:09

@WhoToVoteForScotland22 the only party that is truly against this crap is the Alba party.

Yet again Alex Massie has got it spot on again. Stergon is a dangerous woman who seems to be emulating the worst dictators from history

He'll have to include Ruth Davidson in this headline:

I wish there wasn't so much misogyny from the male bodied trans community. It's diabolical that aggressive, male bodied persons in this group wish to force their agenda with no care or insight at how intimidating and threatening male bodiedness can be, especially in a public toilet or when you are alone. No one would send their 3 year old daughter into a male public toilet for a reason. There is no way in the world it is acceptable for girls not to have safe spaces.

OatSprout · 03/05/2022 07:41

Good to see this article.

Although sentences like Womanhood is something anyone may claim, a definition so expansive it is available to all needs to be followed with *Womanhood is something any man may claim, a definition so expansive it is available to men.

And yet again, trans people — a tiny minority — are not really the issue. Predatory men who will take advantage of the government’s reforms and claim to be women are the issue.

I don’t agree with making the ‘no true trans’ argument. A male can have a genuine diagnosis of gender dysphoria and be a threat to women and girls. This needs saying.

I've always admired Ruth Davidson - I'm so disappointed to read that piece.

Abitofalark · 03/05/2022 15:57

Because he reasons, thinks and writes clearly, he can pinpoint with ease the inability or unwillingness of Sturgeon to do any of that. I've always thought she is an authoritarian ideologue, drunk on power but now blinded by it too. Her twisting and turning in denying reality while making hollow declarations of feminism only serve to highlight her considerable shortcomings. Easy peasy for a sharp thinker like Massie to hold them up to the public view.

You had me worried there but no it is okay, she is supporting the single sex spaces. I vote Conservative in Scotland firstly to stop the Neverendum and secondly to help roll back the Stonewall excesses for women and children. I used to be a Labour member until Corbyn. I had wondered where Ruth stood on this as so many other gays/lesbians have seen their rights to same-sex attraction thrown to the wolves by Stonewall's new definitions and yet felt they had to stay on board. Once you see the safeguarding issues here, you can't unsee them though.

Justtoshare · 03/05/2022 22:28

She didn't agree with Sturgeon though...just put even more nuance on it.
