Object Now are hosting a conference on Surrogacy, the first of it's kind I think as it is through a feminist perspective and not from the pro-surrogacy point of view - with prominent speakers like Kellie Jay Keen from Standing for Women and Jennifer Lahl from the centre of Bioethics.

Tickets are on sale now.

I can't seem to post a link but if you search

"Surrogacy: The Harms and the Humans Tickets, Sat 28 May 2022" on Eventbrite you'll find it!

This is wonderful!!!! I hope to attend the online version (crossing my fingers it's possible).

Delphinium20 · 27/04/2022 22:24

Just wanted to let people who can't attend London, that the online cost is only 11 pounds. Some of the topics:

Is surrogacy really a gay rights issue, or a 'rich rights' issue?
What are the experiences of surrogate mothers in Ukraine?
What is the role of the Law Commission?
What are the government's plans for surrogacy regulation?
The Surrogacy Industry

Thought I would post more information here this is a really really important conference as it highlights the move Mermaids wish to make to move their charitable aims from medicalising and likely sterilising children to providing future surrogacy options for them. A nice cash cow for somebody (perhaps GenderGP will diversify?

"Mermaids have moved into the fertility market, partnering the Modern Family Show in promoting surrogacy to LGBT people, generating £££ for Big Pharma via a new route.
Surrogacy is always sanitised and glamorised in the media. The voices of the child-bearing woman and her baby go unheard and the physical, emotional and psychological complications are ignored. Please help us Resist!
Find out more at the UK's first surro-critical conference in London on Sat 28th May. Hear from the Ukraine where the industry has been exposed by the terrible war, and from authorities on women's and children's rights. 'Posie Parker' aka Kellie-Jay Minshull will speak on behalf of mothers."

Please share.

I was intending to attend in person but cannot so am zooming in. Really looking forward to this.

I caught the morning sessions online. Fascinating stuff from Dr Heather Brunskill Evans and horrific to hear what’s happening in Ukraine from that lady Maria (didn’t catch her last name).

Actually really interesting to see this laid bare and viewed from a critical POV as it’s not what we usually hear.
