I'm not going to pretend that this is the biggest race of the year, the enjoyro event doesn't actually count for anything. It's an entry level mountainbiking event that doesn't require a race license or any kind of qualifying requirements... participants simply sign up, pay the entry fee and then show up on the day.

It's incredibly disappointing however to see that despite Tweedlove claiming in their terms and conditions that race categories are based on sex at birth, they have awarded first place in the e-bike category to a biological male.

This is the kind of event that gets women into racing, rather than just riding for fun, allowing males to enter the female categories will put off women from bothering to enter at all... allowing men into womens sport EXCULDES women.
No women in the entry level events will mean even fewer women in the big races.

I am so pissed off.

Is the woman in third place making a statement..?

MolkosTeenageAngst · 24/04/2022 17:53

They’ve won by such a big time difference in each round as well which really highlights what a big advantage biological sex is if you’re born make. If the difference was a second or two maybe you could say sex isn’t a factor but when you look at their times compared to the bio women, where there are only a few seconds between 2nd and 3rd, they’re starkly different.

And as easily as that, women are gently ushered out of competitive sport. No aggression, no coercion. Just make it not worth even trying.

Oh look more cheating men. What a shock. 🍆

So the rules are based on sex and not on gender? Shouldn't the statistics on who won etc be corrected, because the person given the first place violated the rules of the race?

My first thought too!

was just discussing the narrow pelvis advantage in cycling etc with my DD today

The results give it away even without the context I'd be looking at that and thinking 'hmmmm' wonder why Maxine was so far ahead of every single other rider who were relatively close together...

HappyMaltesers · 24/04/2022 19:34

From what I've heard from people who were there @Beamur I'd not be surprised if that was a deliberate gesture!

Worth bearing in mind that the e-bike category is for bikes that have a motor! You might think that would even things out... but no, there is still a significant difference in the times of men and women (speaking generally here, not just specifically about Maxine).
Full results are here for anyone interested.
