56 MPs are accused of sexual misconduct

Haven’t seen another thread on this yet apologies if there is and I couldn’t find it.

56!!!! That’s 9%. 1 in 11. Of all MPs. If we exclude female MPs (some generalisation and assumption, granted, but I’m yet to hear of a female MP facing these kind of allegations), it is 13% of male MPs. More than 1 in 8 male MPs are accused of sexual misconduct.

It is shocking, but at the same time entirely unsurprising.

WTF?!

UlcerativePoliteness · 17/04/2022 16:06

Male depravity.
Scourge of society, but it won’t be fixed anytime soon as men tend to back up men, many women back up men, those who speak out are shut down.

TheBurmundseyIndustrialEstate · 17/04/2022 16:08

These are the people who are in charge of safeguarding women & girls.
Explains a lot.

Artichokeleaves · 17/04/2022 16:11

I was about to ask, with an innocent sort of sense of inquiry, how many of these people being accused are female. And how many of the complainants are male.

Since we're forever being lectured here about not to make assumptions.

This is building slowly but surely. The government, and all parties, are eventually and very reluctantly going to have to face up to and deal with the fundamental misogyny built root and branch into the system, police, government departments, all of it. It's all still there and stinking beneath the very shallow 'but I'm a male feminist' fig leaf.

Men in power abuse that power.
Shocker.

Bastards.

Nellodee · 17/04/2022 16:13

Wasn't there a survey done on university campuses that suggested 15% of men had committed sexual assault? The figure of 15% of men being total violent sexually abusing arseholes seems to come up quite often, doesn't it?

NAMALT, but 15% of them are, whether MPs, transgender, or whatever.

Artichokeleaves · 17/04/2022 16:15

I'd also like the male/female breakdown linked to field of accusation and see what that demonstrates in terms of pattern.

I see for example in the article, the male MP accused of groping two male researchers.

The female MP is accused of being verbally inappropriate and sexually harassing a male.

Whatwouldscullydo · 17/04/2022 16:17

Not surprised in the slightest.

Power always attracts the " wrong" people even more so when talking abiut safguarding will get you thrown out of a party.

There was a similar survey that showed a third of men polled would rape a woman if he knew he’d get away with it.

These are the ones that are known about. 🤬

Is it any wonder that there's such contempt for safeguarding and such a rush to close ranks around colleagues.

Gibson, MP for North Ayrshire and Arran, was accused of making inappropriate comments to a male member of staff in Westminster’s Strangers’ Bar in January 2020. She has previously said the claims are “malicious allegations” without any foundation.

It will be interesting to see how much publicity that gets as part of the female to male ratio of allegations and offences.

It might be worth looking up voting records on relevant issues when the full list is publicly available.

Urgh more lovely representation for Scotland there Hmm

It's a bit of a tricky figure to ascertain ... I had thought it was something like 1 in 20. (5%). Which is bad enough.
