Telegraph view: balancing act on transgender rights

The Telegraph View:

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/opinion/2022/04/07/balancing-act-transgender-rights/

It includes: though correct not to go ahead with the trans conversion therapy ban, Ministers have arrived late. Women have been bravely putting their heads above the parapet for some time.

Notably it seems to depart from the "on both sides" line we keep hearing:

"Most people would surely agree [with the PM's interview yesterday].

Not LGBT campaign groups, which have denounced the Prime Minister for his recent interventions...

...Society must somehow find a way of balancing the competing rights of different groups in as sensitive a way as possible. That endeavour is best served through a debate that is calm and reflective, not dominated by ideology and rage."

An ideology that evidentially puts women at risk of rape is going to struggle to show it deserves legitimacy

It's excellent, says a lot in only a few paragraphs. As a veteran Guardian reader, I'm embarrassed for them they can't show the same kind of critical thinking as this.

(*with a few honourable exceptions like Rustin and Sodha)
