Great column, and very unusual in the Australian media. Fantastic to see. Thank you Julie

That’s great, will look her up! I saw the leppert saga and thought the poor bastard seems quite rational, which of course doesn’t fly in the greens and that’s exactly why I’m not voting for them.

I know! Poor guy, just trying to maintain some common sense - how did that become such an uphill battle??

Interesting article. Thanks for posting

That's a really good article - very clear, straightforward language.

Thanks for sharing cracker. The comments are a mixed bag. But lots of ‘whatabout’ and misinformation there.

One of those comments was minimising the detransitioner numbers saying they are only 0.5% according to GIDS. I wanted to reply with the long term European study released in 2017 where post medicalised de-transition was found to be 8.2% for female and 8.8% for male (if I remember the numbers correctly). And this was from transitions that were done in the prior 7-15+ years before. So also with well supported mental health therapy before transition, during and supposedly after.

NOT from the known to be below par level of mental health support, or even follow up, GIDS over the past decade.

NOT from the affirming only pushed agenda that is then coinciding with an unexplored up to 3-4000% increase in teenaged females who have presented at clinics.

And a cohort who the Sydney Gender clinic and others around the world have released papers stating these young patients are being coached on how to get to the medicalised treatments first.

And NOT including the statement from the interim Cass report that there IS no data available on that cohort anywhere in the world yet to judge the effectiveness of the treatment path.

So NOT a figure that includes any of those factors at all.

But that comment was made to relay a poorly collected % that has no known relevance to this current cohort but was used in the comment to portray the commenter as having more authority on the topic than the author of the article.

I may still have an active login for the SMH… I am very tempted to reply to that dross and to refute it.

Yes Helle incredibly worthwhile points! Do let us know how you get on if you decided to post a comment - my last one (on a different but related article) went to the 'your comment will be moderated shortly' pile and was never seen again, so I'm interested in looking at what sorts of comments make it through

No. I couldn’t get my old login to work. But that is the line my comment would take.
