All so enragingly predictable. Women warned about this and the need for safeguarding but there seems to be an overt resistance to listening to us about this.

More and more stories have been emerging of indecent proposals like the “Danish doctor”, the men at Berlin station offering money to go with them, or the minibus to France which stopped in the middle of nowhere and demanded refugees pay $1,000 to continue. One volunteer at the border told how he received a phone call ordering “a female Ukrainian and a 12-year-old boy”. Others have been asking for babies to adopt.

“The way I see it, this is a war on women and children,” says Tatiana Kotlyarenko, an adviser on anti-trafficking, “and we may be sending them from one hell to another.”

Wouldn't it just turn your stomach....

" Within days of the war starting, there was such a surge in online searches for “Ukrainian women and sex” that it alerted security agencies"

I imagine that people with options left Ukraine the week before, or the first week of the invasion.

The women leaving Ukraine now, must be, those who hung on because of elderly parents/nowhere to go/ children with additional needs/ less financial resources.
So, they are more vulnerable.

The sick bastards who would take advantage of that...makes you despair for humanity.

LittleWhingingWoman · 03/04/2022 00:30

And so predictable - that predatory men would look for any way to exploit the vulnerable. Sick animals.
I'm curious as to how many of those searches are from the UK for instance.

Whenever the choosy choice people start I think of things like this, and Haiti and Kenya SE Asia and all the other times when it's very clear that punters don't care if they're raping a desperate woman. In fact, there's every proof that they prefer it.

It makes me angry and sad in equal measure.

I'm fundraising for Lumos' campaign right now but what else to do?

The Choice Choosey People don't care beyond their comfortable lives and mantras. They think the buyer is a good bloke, not some depraved rapist.

Sickening.

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 03/04/2022 08:21

What is “choice choosey people”?

MrsOvertonsWindow · 03/04/2022 08:22

What we can do troubles me. Apart from hosting a refugee and contributing to one of the legitimate charities, it seems impossible to influence this as an individual.
Just an appalling situation.

The coverage in the Times of all this has been exceptional. Another reason I'm pleased with my subscription.

Choice feminists.
PaterPower · 03/04/2022 10:26

I read it as meaning the sort of people who say SWIW and so on, and think that women and children who are driven into prostitution and exploitation have a choice in the matter.

MargaritaPie · 03/04/2022 14:24

Within days of the war starting, there was such a surge in online searches for “Ukrainian women and sex” that it alerted security agencies

Online searches where? And how were "security agencies" alerted exactly?

That's your question? Not, "what can I do about trafficking and abuse?"

There really is no rape for money you won't find a way to defend or try a little deflection on, is there? Do you think women from war zones are frequently trafficked.

Oh and everyone who was asking, the choosy choice people, that's @MargaritaPie

Why so invested in casting doubt?
MargaritaPie · 03/04/2022 15:18

I'm just wondering what the source is for this and specifically what it's about?

Julie Bindel made a statement about Pornhub not long ago and it turned out to be groundless:

Monitaurus · 03/04/2022 15:21

What is MPs interest in casting doubt on wha5 w9men and girls are actually going through? Is it all in a name?

MarshmallowSwede · 03/04/2022 15:25

Google keeps an index if every single thing on the internet.. so yes they themselves can alert the necessary governmental agencies of certain internet activity.

I’m fact, the large multinational tech companies all have a dedicated department especially for government and security liaison.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 03/04/2022 15:40

I didn't expect a horrific researched article from a journalist with excellent credentials about the abuse and sex trafficking of women and girls from the Ukraine to be met with any scepticism on here Hmm

Sometimes it seems as if there are no depths that some will descend to.

Mummyoflittledragon · 03/04/2022 18:48

@MargaritaPie
This is a Times article. We have no reason to suspect that to be a falsehood.
