Is this question an April Fool?

On Twitter, a certain ‘erotic author’ asking: ‘ I encourage everyone to take a moment to think about this. Without referencing your sex or biology, what makes you personally know you are a woman or a man?’

Cue a whole thread of pompous answers about “I just knew...” “instinct” and “identity”.

In my case, without referencing sex or biology, absolutely nothing.

Yeah I was seven when I discovered that being out of sight of anyone else while in possession of female biology is dangerous, and that some members of the male sex feel you have something they're entitled to access and make use of if they want to.

Frankly how you identify and your deep inner feels are not relevant to them in the slightest while they're doing it: it isn't that part of you they're busy enjoying.

Only male people get to pretend that sex isn't relevant or a thing, it's a conceit you can only get to wallow around in if you're already in the born body that hands you the power and luxury of doing so.

Artichokeleaves · 01/04/2022 10:29

incidentally the male sex people who assaulted me still managed to do so despite that I had short hair.

I mean how did they know to march up to me demanding "show us your fanny" with certainty that I'd got one?

Not playing these ridiculous male-ego pandering games, I really am done with it. Anyone wanting me to be polite needs to go and start with these male people and their politeness to the female half of the human race first. I'll be glad to follow their example.

@Artichokeleaves so much love to you ❤

Nothing which is why being able to talk about my sex and biology matter

BootsAndRoots · 01/04/2022 11:19

It's like asking "at what point did you know you had brown eyes?".

There's nothing about knowing inside or souls or whatever. You are what you are and that meets a particular definition/category.

Are you attracted to the opposite sex? Well that is defined as heterosexual, so that must be me. I don't go around hunting for different labels.

Phobiaphobic · 01/04/2022 11:20

@Solosunrise

Nothing springs to mind. My siblings went to a boys boarding school and I was sent to a local girls school so that gave me a clue, and I've just run with it really 🤔
Actual lols.
Phobiaphobic · 01/04/2022 11:25

Given that I'm so low on agreeableness and occasionally quite aggressive, I'm probably a man. Yet somehow not. It's perplexing.

Whatwouldscullydo · 01/04/2022 11:27

I dunno. Maybe it was when I had to wear itchy tights at school and a skirt when half the class could wear trousers.

Or when I had to have my thunder thighs on show in pe knickers when others got to wear proper shorts.

Maybe when an instructor on a school trip tried to stick his tongue down my throat.

Or when some guy hung out his car yelling at me to get into his car on a night out clubbing.

Or perhaps when a boss I used to have decided to tell everyone not to show me how to change a barrel as I was too stupid whilst allowing the most dim man I have ever met to run the place on his nights off.

Its a mystery tbh

Why would it be an April fool? You don’t agree with the question, don’t answer it.

ControversialOpening · 01/04/2022 12:57

You don’t agree with the question, don’t answer it.

If you don't like the debate don't take part in it.

PrelateChuckles · 01/04/2022 13:21

Yes. Sexual Assault is a clear right of passage for men.

Do you mean rite of passage, or an actual right? Why do you think that? It's not what "statistically more likely" means, is it?

tabbycatstripy · 01/04/2022 13:26

‘Why would it be an April fool?’

Because April Fool’s day is about making outrageous claims and trying to persuade people to believe them. Seems to fit the bill to me.

‘You don’t agree with the question, don’t answer it.’

I didn’t. I described it.

At least we know BoredZelda "agrees with the question" posed by the OP of this thread, as they answered it Wink

IcakethereforeIam · 01/04/2022 13:29

Wow, got deleted, sorry MN.

Coyoacan · 01/04/2022 13:58

Without referencing your sex or biology, what makes you personally know you are a woman or a man?’

Being made to wear a dress on Sundays and not being allowed to play football or use the gymnasium at school.

Cameliah · 01/04/2022 14:09

Without referencing your sex or biology, what makes you personally know you are a woman or a man?
Nothing. ‘Woman’ is a statement of physical biology. ‘Adult human female’ simply refers to age, species and sex (defined by having XX chromosomes and the related body parts). Trying to claim that factors other than biology can make someone a woman is how society got into this mess in the first place.

NCforthiseek · 01/04/2022 19:26

Oh I don't know, probably the monthly cramps and the fact I went part time to care for DC and halved my salary as a result. It all just gives me a feeling, you know, that I'm like so femme...honestly, ridiculous!

Solosunrise · 01/04/2022 20:10

Can the bit about we know we're women because of how other people respond to us still stand?

ProstheticConscience · 01/04/2022 22:19

Oh hang on. I think I might know the answer to this.
Let me just check with DH....
Yep. A man told me I'm a woman.
That's the correct way to find out isn't it?

(in case of any doubt, ^that is sarcasm!)

PermanentTemporary · 01/04/2022 23:00

But... the biology is all it is. I'm me, otherwise. If I had a man's body, I'd be a man.
