I just thought this really summed up how difficult it has (intentionally) been made to discuss women’s rights.

I know MN have hosted this debate etc etc but they do also contribute to the challenge of talking about this issue clearly.

It’s true. If we talk in the abstract about the biological differences between males and females, we’re ‘talking about people’s genitals’, and that’s obscene.

They’re allowed to talk about ‘lady dick’, obviously.

sacredfeminina · 30/03/2022 21:37

Trans women are allowed to refer to 'lady brains' 'front holes' and woman being 'vacant eyes, open mouths, and expectant arseholes' (or whatever that horrendous quote was)....

YET IT IS INSULTING TO CALL A MAN, WHO COMPETED IN THE MANS TEAM LAST WEEK, A MAN AND THEREFORE STRONGER THAN A WOMEN.

My god don't make me rage.

Thinking about Angela Rayner and her stance that talking about human biology is ‘debasing’ something or other - she’s not of the calibre we need.

MalagaNights · 30/03/2022 21:42

That is such a good description!

Yes you have 30 seconds, a list of words you can't use, and you have to provide scientific evidence for all previously shared understandings of reality.

Go!

OvaHere · 30/03/2022 21:53

Yes and it is extremely tedious.

RoyalCorgi · 30/03/2022 21:54

So succinctly put and sums up the problem brilliantly.

Boodleoops: "It’s spectacular gaslighting to insist on changing the meaning of commonly understood words such as “woman” and “female”, then accuse people of being obsessed with genitals when they use the only words they have left to refer to the sexes"

This was at the heart of so much of the discussion in the recent Forstater tribunal.

The #ForstaterChallenge has laid bare the ideological aphasia that is being enforced in so many settings. I've been thinking about the naked and unabashed cruelty of the NHS CCTV story and what is reported as the hospital's obfuscation because there doesn't seem to have been any way for the police to obtain a truthful answer from the Trust because the Trust was prepared to weasel word their way through ignoring the fact finding intention of the police enquiries. The Forstater Challenge (as opposed to the Staniland Question) is this: What form of words would someone have to use to establish the truth of a matter when making relevant enquiries or engaging in relevant discussions.

Oh, great, I've been looking for an excuse to post this all day.

And Owen Jones describing the discussion of male and female genitals in the context of sex based rights as 'tawdry', when he is perfectly happy to post a photo of a woman wearing a T-shirt that reads 'Will suck dick for socialism'. Hmm

Due to three young kids i wasnt able to follow the tribunal tweets, so i have only little insight, but reading things such as this are exciting. I cant wait for some review/breakdown of the court proceedings/case.
