I read a Stephen Hassan book on cult a few years ago, and my mind keeps wondering back to it. Just stumbled accross this, similiar to what Hassan mentions as the tactics of cults in reforming thoughts.
Hassan also talks about how to 'exit counsel' people from cults. He coaches people on how to liberate family members caught in a cult. Main tactics are to keep bonds strong, don't attack, critiscise, or push cult-member away. Build strong bonds to ensure they continue to trust you (in the face of being told that they cannot trust you by said cult). To gently bring their thoughts back to pre-cult days. So to ask things such as, what they were doing before (the cult) and what did they think they were going to be, what aspirations did they have for themselves (before the cult). To help someone re-explore their previous dreams/passions. To help that person remember how they felt pre-ideology. I wonder if this is helpful for ROGD teens.
