For Women Scotland complain about the word "cis"

The fabulous For Women Scotland articulate what so many of us feel about this offensive, regressive term. I suspect the parliament will ignore them - even the women there prioritise the needs of men - but what a letter!!!

This, on top of the win in the Gender Recognition case, protecting women from having transwomen included in their numbers on public boards via self ID.

Fabulous women. More plans are, no doubt, afoot.

Well done For Women, and good to hear there's a Labour MSP who rejects cis.

Hoardasurass · 24/03/2022 07:33

Let's hope that with the forstrarter judgement being quoted the presiding officer will take the complaint seriously this time

DomesticatedZombie · 24/03/2022 07:45

Thank you, FWS. Unfortunately this will be ignored; as we all know it's only some special people's feelings that matter.

Theeyeballsinthefuckingsky · 24/03/2022 07:55

Good for FWS

Given the recent influx of visitors who use cis with abandon even though it’s stated in the guidelines here that it’s not condusive to civil debate, wondering whether we should just start reporting it whenever it’s used. I know generally we don’t like to report but when ppl are asked nicely several times not to use it and they plough on regardless, I tend to work on the basis they’re not debating in good faith anyway

DomesticatedZombie · 24/03/2022 10:03

Generally true, eyeballs. Visitors to this board who persist in using 'cis' even after women have asked them to stop are not in good faith.

CatherinaJTV · 24/03/2022 10:47

when the board is seeping in blanketly applied drastic designations for trans women (agp and the like), then one can easily forget that "c** is a slur" (needs a rolls eyes icon here)

Artichokeleaves · 24/03/2022 11:02

The double standards as always are front and centre.

Uber respect for this group; that group should be derided for rejecting the label they don't identify with, object to, does not match their beliefs and feelings (but serves the other group.)

Yeah, no. Either everyone gets equality of say and respect in their language, or we all just use the language we choose and we all get to deal with hearing words we don't like. Pick one.

CatherinaJTV · 24/03/2022 11:11

then maybe the group should also refrain from screaming "bloke" and "agp" at every trans woman, it's like a reflex and not remotely ok. It's not like I don't remember the "nnce" and "pedo" screams at my LG siblings.

Same vibes.

Gosh I must have missed FWS 'screaming' at transwomen, when did that happen?

Apollo441 · 24/03/2022 12:10

That would be no one here @CatherinaJTV.
Bt you know that. Carry on slinging your mud. It isn't sticking and you are losing the argument.

So if we use the 'cis' terminology (which I detest), what are the young people in Afghanistan called who are currently not allowed to go to school? Cisgender girls? But we have no idea how they would identify if they were told about the concept! And we are also told that the cisgender group is the more privileged one, so is that the case in all places?

Crikey! When did they do that?

Receipts or an apology for the, erm, error?!?!

Apollo441 · 25/03/2022 01:19

Hey @CatherinaJTV care to condone the TRAs outside the Womans Place meeting in Manchester yesterday? Your lot seem to have cornered the market in piss poor behaviour. Thought not. Your silence, as ever, is telling.

Oh dear. Do we need to recount all the things that protestors have said, done and written on their placards and on pavements in support of trans rights? The list is long and growing every week.

While you find calling someone a ‘man’ when they are male on par with calling someone a ‘n*nce’, it shows a great deal of readers the lack of proportionality in any of your arguments. And how the world has become completely upturned to protect the sensibilities of of loud and small group of extremists. Who don’t seem to be representative of the trans community.

Please keep going catharina. Have you ever thought about the trans people who don’t agree with many of the things you write here as something supposedly supporting that community?

Or are they the wrong ‘type’ of trans people?

Helleofabore · 25/03/2022 06:52

What happened?

About 150 protesters stood out front of the Woman’s Place conference protesting drowning out women speaking about women’s sport, an inspirational women speaking about her need for single sex spaces from her experience as a refugee, her experiences with things like FGM. That kind of thing.

That is the kind of discussion they are trying to stop.

A purely factual term for transpeople merits an immediate deletion here. I saw a poster have a post mentioning it (not at any one person in particular but as a general point) and it was deleted almost immediately.

An influx of new posters (and some older ones who are perfectly aware of the feelings about the slur cis here) are deliberately and continually using the term and despite that clearly not being conducive to civil debate, their posts are allowed to stand.

And cis is a slur. Much like terf. You may be determined to make other people follow your belief system but we're saying no.

FWS are absolute heroes and as a Scottish woman, I am very grateful to them.
