This is interesting. Could get messy.

Where does it go from here do you think? I'm no expert in the processes that apply here but I smell litigation in the air.

I saw a headline of this yesterday but wasn't sure if it was real. Seems legitimate.

TooManyAnimals94 · 23/03/2022 21:14

Thank god someone high profile has at least spoken out about it. I hope it does get to the courts if that's the only way to rectify this lunacy.

DoubleYouOhEmAyEn · 23/03/2022 21:27

Yes, I'm glad someone prominent is making a stand. Unfortunately it's seems likely it fuel the left v right aspect as its a republican speaking out. Democrats are bound to disagree on principle they can't agree with a Trump ally.

I’m glad someone is speaking up.
Is he the one introducing banning teaching gender identity to children?

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 23/03/2022 22:00

@ChairCareOh

Shame he’s a Donald trump ally. But at least people are speaking out.
He and the Donald have fallen out, but he's still a right-wing loon. Unfortunately, though, he's all women in the US have got.
GrumpyPanda · 23/03/2022 23:55

Not just gender identity, sadly. Its called the "Don't Say Gay Bill" for a reason.

They've shot themselves in the foot with this. Parents don't want their 11 year old daughters coming home saying they are non-binary lesbian demi-sexuals. It doesn't engender any trust that what they are learning about sexuality is appropriate, accurate, or healthy.
timeisnotaline · 24/03/2022 01:59

I don’t know how you fix anything in America. Ron de Santis saying this basically means no democrat can agree with this idea ever. (Which Is often the only valid reaction to de Santis’ ideas).

TheLeadbetterLife · 24/03/2022 02:02

Republicans don’t give two shits about women, they are just escalating the culture war. Boris is attempting the same play in the U.K. too.

GoodnessTruthBeauty · 24/03/2022 03:44

The bill in Florida applies to Elementary (Primary) students, its to prevent teachers grooming and sexualizing children, particularly with Gender Ideology.

Democrats who haven't read the bill don't understand its mainly protecting children and strengthening parental rights so information cannot be kept from parents about a child's welfare or mental or physical health.

Its NOT a good look for Disney and other Corporations to come out for Gender Ideology and against parents.

You are probably correct as Mr De Santis appears to have some repellent policies. However, this is a rod that the Democrats have made for their own back. They are providing an open goal to their political opponemts by their total disregard for women's rights.

tabbycatstripy · 24/03/2022 08:26

I have no love for far-right Republican policies, but they are - obviously - right.

TheLeadbetterLife · 24/03/2022 09:14

Of course they’re right on this one thing, so is Boris, that’s the whole point of them saying it. They’re courting votes. Where are the policies though? How are they actually standing up for women?

If gender critical feminists are going to proclaim on social media that they have no-one to vote for because no-one will be truthful about what a woman is, obviously you’re going to get opportunist cunts like these taking advantage.

I can’t believe anyone was saying Boris had their vote because of one throw-away remark during PMQs. Aren’t we more cynical than that?

Who do you think I should vote for?

TheLeadbetterLife · 24/03/2022 09:48

How should I know? I don’t know what your other political positions or policy interests are. If all anyone has to do to get your vote is make one vague remark it hardly matters what I think.

Which is pathetic. People need to grow up.
Manderleyagain · 24/03/2022 10:05

I read the proclamation as a screen shot on twitter. It's good that the governor has spoken up in support of women's sport & the florists athlete - it's great to see a strong statement in support of her.

But it's bizarre he thinks he can override the results of a sport competition by legal fiat. Obviously he knows that him signing a piece of paper doesn't affect what the ncaa will report as the results, or what the sport's regulations are. If I was in florida I would be just as pissed off at my governor thinking he has legal powers to override things like this with a swish if the pen, and would be wondering what else he has his sights on. What a bizarre practice.

Anyway. I don't support the bizarre symbolism if the method, but I do support the sentiment.

BootsAndRoots · 24/03/2022 10:34

People's desire for tribal politics is why we are in the position we are in. You don't agree with something your side says, but you have to agree with them because they are on your side.

Listened to too many people who have fallen out with the left, because they didn't agree with the gender ID nonsense.

The more politicians who come out about this stuff the better. If the right are seen to be winning on this issue, more on the left will change their position to win back votes.

Too many are fuelled by wanting to be "on the right side of history".

Viviennemary · 24/03/2022 10:39

They are not the winner in a woman's race. How can they be. Anybody know.
