Does anyone have sex stats on nonbinary people?

How many female, how many male? Google seems unable to conceive of this as a question.

The nonbinary person I know best is male, though I think at least one of the transmen I know will eventually identify as nonbinary.

The ones I know and know of personally are all female. However, IME non-binary can be a kind of “gateway” identity into full identifying as the opposite sex, and it can also (quite sensibly I think) be chosen by young people who feel peer pressure to be “LGBTQ” and be cool, but don’t want to commit - and who then quite quickly grow out of it. So there’s a lot of flip-flopping in and out of being NB which would make it quite hard to monitor.

The vast vast majority are teenaged and grow out of it by mid twenties....

Females tend to be more susceptible to social contagion so I'd predict more female nonbinaries at school/college/uni age range.

I think there a lot of bandwagon jumpers for whom it's fairly meaningless, but where people take it seriously I think it's more common in female people because it offers them a way to opt out of traditional ideas of womanhood/sex stereotypes etc without having to declare themselves men.

And the whole idea of non binary is not to recognise sex so it's unlikely that any definitive statistics would exist.

Based on one research article, two-thirds of nonbinary young people (15-24) are AFAB, the rest AMAB. The majority of nonbinary people I know are AFAB (almost all of whom are over 25).

This is an American study, so not necessarily applicable to the UK.

The fact that we have to mention whether a non-binary is male or female just show what a nonsense non-binary is.....

Thanks for the sex stats, Dadjoke. It confirms our assumptions.

Thanks Dadjoke, much appreciated.

There may well be a time lag - there definitely are more females in their 30s transitioning to live as men (from a base of statistically none) and there may well be more males who identify as NB in the future.

Despite this massive skew towards girls (I'm not using the ridiculous ideological nonsense of AFAB) identifying as non - binary and the same kind of percentage for those identifying as trans (despite the fact that historically it has always been a majority of males identifying as girls), there's still a reluctance/silencing around any research to examine why this is happening. Any suggestion of social contagion is screamed down. Girls identifying as girls is 'social suicide' in Schools.
