Maya Forstater hearing starts Monday

Hi all,

Thank you so much for all your support: emotional, intellectual, financial, spiritual(!) reading the Mumsnet feminism board is where this all started for me!

The case starts tomorrow.

It is all online. If you want to watch you need to email the tribunal for a log in to [email protected]

It kicks off at 10am - the first bit will be "admin" between the judges and the lawyers working out the timings, issues and any reporting restrictions .

Once that is all sorted the judge and the panel will go away to read (probably for the rest of Monday and all of Tuesday)

I will most likely give evidence Wednesday and Thursday.

@tribunaltweets will be tweeting the whole thing (assuming they get permission from the judge)

Links to papers will go up throughout the case at www.hiyamaya.net.

Any other questions I am happy to answer them (apart from the ones where I have to say "that is for the tribunal to hear"...)

I hugely admire you and donated to your first crowdfunder.

Don't want to patronise you, but I took my boss to tribunal and EAT and won after a bit of a complex history. Spent many weeks overall giving and hearing evidence.

Some tips for the tribunal (that you may have heard, but may be useful if not):
-the other side will try to distract from the list of issues, probably with character assassination. Don't let them. It's not relevant. Your barrister will interrupt if they go too far with this, but even on the questions you answer, don't give it much time or worry.
-look at the panel to give your answer, not the opposing barrister
-try to stick to the topic
-don't bitch about the other side in the corridor or the lift. Wait till you get to the claimant waiting room. Even better, book a conference room if your ET building has one.
-be honest and concise. Don't try to be too clever with answers but do direct the panel to a document if you need to see it to refresh your memory or you want them to see it.
-deliberately take the panel to your best documents as they won't read anything they're not taken to

Maya is the reason why I am speaking up at school.

When I was doing a session on honour based violence this week and a younger teacher told me I should change 'women' to people with vulvas, I refused. When she said 'but its not just women who have vulvas' I said no, I don't believe that, and I am not going to call women who have been murdered or cut because they are women 'people with vulvas'....

...... that's because of maya.

On the upside it's not just me, we had Katy Jon on the other day and the first question asked by one of the men was should Lia be competing in womens sports. The pushback is going mainstream even in my woke corner of the world.
