Alan Carr/Michelle Visage on drag, on his podcast

Interesting convo between Alan Carr and Michelle Visage on his Life's a Beach Podcast. He started talking about drag and said he couldn't believe the misogyny in the shows/culture. She completely cut him off and used the word T**F and said it's not misogyny, it's a celebration, blah blah. Anyone else hear it?

No, but interesting to hear another gay man spotting the misogyny. Michelle Visage of course makes her £££ from being involved with drag so she'll be supremely disinterested in hatred against women.

SNUG2022 · 04/03/2022 19:07

Go on Alan!! He's best mates with Adele. They know.

Mumdiva99 · 04/03/2022 19:09

I haven't heard the podcast hut he's a regular guest on drag race so can't be that bothered by it...
(I'm off to listen now)

DisforDarkChocolate · 04/03/2022 19:09

I'll have to listen. Drag makes me feel nauseous, once you see the misogyny you can't unsee it.

Shrekprincess · 04/03/2022 19:27

I’m a bit confused how not liking drag/seeing the misogyny in drag makes you a T*F - transwomen are women - women dressing as women is not drag - therefore it’s men doing drag so it’s be a DragF or a Man*F surely 🤔

Mumdiva99 · 07/03/2022 12:52

I've just listened. What I heard from him was that his expectation the first time he went to see drag was misogyny. But actually he and Michelle talk about celebrating the performers and their talents.

Interesting. That's not what I heard. I heard he couldn't believe the misogyny - 'here comes the tuna' I think he said they said and she shut him down and said she would not have the word misogyny used, only T**FS and radfems use that and it's not the case.

Drag is part of the trans umbrella though.

@Shrekprincess oh I see what you're saying now.

Sorry to derail slightly but what are the arguments in support of drag? I ask because a friend is taking her kids to drag queen story time this week and I wanted to ask her why exactly she feels a 2 year old and a 4 year old need their stories read by a man in a makeup, a wig, a tight dress and heels, and I want to be ready for her response.

Binglebong · 07/03/2022 23:21

If I were you Cindy I'd find out who the performer is and Google them. Aide-H-Dee (may be spelt wrong) is a current popular one - who wears the same outfit as for adult shows and likes to advertise his ahem physical excitement in it.

An argument in 'support of drag' as a whole is a different thing to supporting drag queen story time, though pp.

Interested to listen to this podcast though. There's a lot to like about Michelle Visage, so it's disappointing to hear her throwing about the word t*. I know she's probably TWAW but she's not soft, and it seems beneath anyone of a certain age who isn't an internet troll.

Wasn't Adele on stage with a drag "artist" at GAY a few weeks ago? I think he calls himself Cheryl Hole.

I have never understood women like Michelle Visage who seem to have a pathological need to surround themselves with as many gay men as possible.

I have never understood women like Michelle Visage who seem to have a pathological need to surround themselves with as many gay men as possible.

She talk about not fitting in when she was young. This aligns with my experience of female straight friends that spent years hanging out only with guy men and on the guy scene. They found an acceptance on who they were which they didn't find in the straight world where they felt judged for not being the same as everyone else. Once you move in that space then you meet more people who are also gay etc etc..... - this was 20 odd years ago when life was different, the gay scene was less mainstream and less accepted and Michelle Visage is a similar age to me...a bit younger. So maybe that's all it is.

Mumdiva99 · 08/03/2022 07:36

Gay not guy

@HDDD - sorry not to do with your OP but I stumbled across an old thread started by you in 2019 (!) which started off as a bit of a bunfight, and wondered how you have been since? Would you say your views have changed/ you've learned more from FWR since?

@bishophaha Had to go back and see what I said. Twitter is still toxic and not the right place and yes I have learned more thanks.
