"Update from Regency Ward here in Brighton.
It seems Mx. Tom Pashby has stood down as Green Party candidate for next year’s local elections and resigned from the party too."

Reply to tweet:

"I've been informed that Tamsin Omond is in front of a disciplinary panel for her 'unflushables' comment too."

Which is something. (Pashby had a lot to do with the campaign against KS at Sussex)

If any members can't make the conference they can give proxy votes. This ends today.

Meanwhile over in the South West there is an internal Green Party election ending Saturday. Anyone wanting to see people elected who understand why sex matters, here are some voting suggestions:

GPRC female rep:

  1. Judy Maciejowska
  2. RON
GPRC male rep
  1. Ewan Jones
  2. RON
Disciplinary Committee
  1. Loppy Oubridge

Deadline 23.59 on Sat 26th Feb.

hemulensdress · 25/02/2022 12:40

GreenGretel is Ewan Jones ok then? I’d given up on voting Green locally, the last candidate for MP refused to engage with sex and gender issues despite being a doctor…

TheGreatATuin · 25/02/2022 17:39

I'm not sure if Ewan Jones is gender critical but I'm pretty sure he's not a TRA.
However, he is standing against one. His opponent is Simon Trafford-Townsend, husband of Ani, the co-chair of GP Women who confirmed on twitter that she was 'working on it' when making claims about Emma Bateman and Emma was suspended shortly after.
Stafford-Townsend is also a member of SOC (standing orders committee), so would end up having even more say if elected to the SW position. We absolutely don't want him getting in.

From Emma on twitter:

"Congratulations to Judy, Ewan, and Loppy for winning in the South West internal Green Party elections.

I hope it is a sign that members are taking notice of who is running the party, and rejecting those who insist that we must agree that trans women are female."

👏

Fantastic news! ThanksWine

CompleteGinasaur · 27/02/2022 14:34

Wow! I was really expecting to check back in here for the results only to find that the TRAs had rigged the election process again. Brilliant feeling, so happy to be wrong!

Any advice? I joined the Green Party so I could vote for Shahrar Ali and then Emma Bateman. I am left of centre politically and care very much about the environment, so it ought to be a good for me politically. Labour, LibDems appear to be lost pro tem. Tories unthinkable (for me). Best candidate in our constituency last GE was a gender critical Green woman, so I voted for her.

However, after the suspension of Emma and Shahrar, I don't know what to do. Am I best placed staying on in case I can vote in a way that helps them, or should I leave and let them know in no uncertain terms why I'm off?

Same! I am paying my £3.33 a month and poised to do something useful Grin

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g there are plenty of us staying in the party and using our votes to try to overturn the nonsense. The Green Feminist FB page and newsletter is good to get updates about what's going on.

WarriorN · 27/02/2022 17:24

There are so many of us within tbe party fighting.

Stay and give votes as needed. You can give proxy votes if you can't attend. I've given mine for this time

Thanks, I'll hang on for a bit then. I don't use FB but will try to find a sign up for the newsletter. I do follow Emma and Shahrar on Twitter, so must try to make a point of looking at what they post. I find it all overwhelming sometimes and concentrate on lighthearted stuff, but I need to toughen myself up a bit.

TheGreatATuin · 27/02/2022 19:42

Yes, definitely stay and do what you can. The SW elections were won quite thoroughly with both candidates winning approx 60% to 35%.
Whether they 'get' the gender stuff or not, I think most members are utterly fed up with the TRA contingent clogging up party time and resources with endless complaints and attempted suspensions and want to get back to actual green issues.

StarryGazeyEyes · 27/02/2022 19:47

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g I joined at the same time and for the same reasons after leaving Labour and have been very tempted to quit the GP too, but I don't think it's a lost cause yet. I voted in the SW elections this weekend and it's good to think I went a little way to helping with the results. It's shocking how small a percentage of members bother to vote - in this election only 389 votes were cast for each candidate, out of a potential 7247. A little bit of coordinated effort can go a long way.

DomesticatedZombie · 27/02/2022 22:12

Fab news on the SW elections!

Green members- conference is next week, where there will be a vote on whether women members can be expelled from the party for signing the woman's human rights declaration. It's too late to sign up now, though, I think.

It would be good to get a party with a strong environmental focus back to doing what it's supposed to do .
