DMail: Govt new strategy to drop outside organisations

"Guidance from the Cabinet Office, published yesterday, states that ministries should no longer engage with ‘external assurance and benchmarking organisations’.

Instead they should bring such schemes in-house.

A government source said that would mean departments will be expected to pull out of the Stonewall scheme.

‘The strategy recognises the civil service is out of touch with the British public it works for,’ the source said.

‘This is the first serious attempt by the Government to get Whitehall to change course by cutting out the wokery, ending the reliance of dodgy diversity schemes and getting more jobs outside of the London metropolitan bubble.’

The new instruction came in a document called the civil service diversity and inclusion strategy, 2022 to 2025."

There's also a dig at Liz Truss for not getting rid of the Stonewall scheme since becoming Foreign Secretary, despite having previously said it wasn't value for money.

That's good news.

DdraigGoch · 25/02/2022 00:56

Governments for the last 25 years or so have allowed third sector organisations to decide government policy through lobbying. That doesn't make for good policy. Likewise many organisations are heavily dependant upon government funding for substantial chunks of their income. The loss of transparency has resulted in corruption in many charities, CEOs are invariably now paid substantial amounts of money - regardless of the actual benefit they bring.

Yes, Please.

This is very positive news.

Can the government force schools, colleges and universities to do the same?

Goatsaregreat · 25/02/2022 06:50

Can the government force schools, colleges and universities to do the same?

The new guidelines reminding schools of their duty to be politically neutral are meant to do that - but it's going to take countless parents to remind schools of this.

Goatsaregreat · 25/02/2022 06:51

I noticed this in the article:
Procedures will also be tightened up... to make sure political views do not influence civil service advice on diversity and inclusion policies and actions.

Long overdue.

DfE guidance doesn’t cover the devolved nations where education is a devolved matter. It will take more time to right the ship outside of England.

Great if Government departments take the lead, then followed by local authorities. Difficult then for other public sector organisations such as NHS and schools to ignore.

Waiting with interest. It looks like the Government is taking the Civil Service to task because, for me at least, the impartiality has gone

DomesticatedZombie · 25/02/2022 14:23

Good.

Artichokeleaves · 25/02/2022 14:26

Yup.

Now can the govt also very firmly remind the police and fire service and NHS that they are also required to be politically neutral and impartial at all times, with all people, without flag flapping to demonstrate political capture by any one partisan group?

And then I'll await the inquiry into why all these agencies permitted themselves to be politically captured, and why there was such a mass safeguarding fail, and expect all policies written under influence of said capture to be ditched and re written from scratch with absolute impartiality.

Said impartiality duty of course will immediately be framed with high drama and high dudgeon by said lobby, a la letter to EHCR this week.
