The regressive blind spot in this is mind boggling.
I saw a long Twitter thread under some US journalist insisting that Lia Thomas wasn't a cheat (technically), with lots of fairly reasonable debate.
But it never seemed to occur to anyone there on either side of the debate that there's absolutely nothing stopping Lia competing with all the other males. The possibility wasn't even acknowledged in the way the other arguments were directed, let alone addressed directly.
It's as if it was all a terrible conundrum between letting Thomas compete with the women for his sake, and making Thomas give up swimming for the sake of the women.
(There also seemed to be a blackout on the "transman" mysteriously able to compete with their own sex.)
