New initiative to 'build a framework' for free speech at Oxford University. It's chaired by David Isaac, former head of EHRC, who recently criticised recent appointments at EHRC (of GC women) as 'political'. He's formerly of Stonewall too. Kathleen Stock's old employer also represented.

Thanks for this.

"We will hear from four free speech experts on the legal, ethical and practical context, followed by breakout groups. Together we will build a framework to effectively and respectfully tackle difficult decisions about issues like race, disability, and trans rights.

Guest speakers: Raj Desai, Barrister at Matrix Chambers; Professor Helen Landemore, Professor of Political Science at Yale University; Professor David Ruebain, Pro V-C at University of Sussex; Simukai Chigudu, Associate Professor of African Politics at St Anthony's College Oxford"

It's good that they are acknowledging the need to discuss these things. Difficult decisions? Not sure what that means.

I am guessing that the sussex person will be up on the law & duties around academic freedom. I wonder where the others sit.

Was #nodebate the brainchild of stonewall on his watch, or since he left?

He left around 2012, so before Stonewall went fully into the trans debate, but worth checking out other MN threads on his time at EHRC.
