Raquel is very keen that you read her statement and share!

A harrowing read. Sending love, support and solidarity to Raquel x

Jux · 11/02/2022 15:12

The link just sends me back to this thread. Help!

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 11/02/2022 15:21

So Bristol shows its concern by rewarding AA with a job? Classy.

I'm heading for Raquel's crowdfuner right now.

allmywhat · 11/02/2022 15:27

Raquel is absolutely amazing. I am so sorry about everything she's gone through. She's so strong and she shouldn't have had to be.

What a contrast with the violent, screaming toddlers whose "safety" is threatened by their own misogynistic rage & projection issues. In particular "my pronouns are they you fucking cunt" who clearly isn't fit to work anywhere never mind be employed at the place where they executed theys bullying and harassment campaigns.

Everyone named in that document should be sacked, and the one who isn't named too. I'm not sure what the judge can actually do to the UoB; I assume that potential consequences for the perpetrators and enablers fall far short of that. But I hope they get the book thrown at them, and that Raquel gets the vindication and the support that she needs to finish her PhD and move on with her life. Flowers Flowers

RhymesWithOrange · 11/02/2022 16:56

Apart from being a litigious special vulnerable snowflake, why is AA anonymous. This is not me asking who it is, just why they are the only person in the whole case who has not been named?

Leafstamp · 11/02/2022 17:21

@ArabellaStrange

Thank you for posting this does sound like an important read but I do not have the energy to read 74 pages of legalese speech right now. Would someone please do a summary and point me in the direction of helping?

Thanks in advance

I can't do a summary, but here are a few high(low)lights:

On 8 November 2019, Miles Taylor the senior executive assistant to Sarah Purdy wrote to her about my email saying: “How much do you want me to prioritise the shitty email from Raquel and Women Talk Back! lot?” To which Sarah Purdy appeared to take no exception, and replied on the same day: “No need to prioritise that email.”

In the footage that was broadcast, AA was shown attacking women: by trying to detonate a smoke bomb in an enclosed space, by blocking the stairs and refusing to let the speakers enter the venue and by assaulting a feminist speaker while shouting: “I’m not ‘she’, you fucking cunt. My pronouns are ‘they.’

AA instructed lawyers, which they paid for by a crowdfunding page. It falsely stated that the only reason that AA was under investigation was because they had written a letter objecting to the WPUK meeting. The comments on the crowdfunding page contained abusive language such as “I’ll kick TERF folks ass [emojis] fuck TERFs”

YetAnotherSpartacus · 11/02/2022 17:30

Any screenshots of that page?

This is appalling. Sadly, I believe it could happen at any university.

It’s not legalese speak, it’s her own words and it’s quite compelling as well as rage inducing that she was treated so appallingly by Bristol University,
Redshoeblueshoe · 11/02/2022 17:36

It is very simple to follow Raquel's statement. It's just rage inducing, and fairly long.
After reading it you will probably need to do some gardening to calm your nerves 🥕🥕🥕

Leafstamp · 11/02/2022 17:37

The way the paragraphs are split do not lend themselves to screen shots even I had the technical ability to post them here. But you will find those quotes at paras 85, 105 and 196 in the link in the OP.
YetAnotherSpartacus · 11/02/2022 17:39

Thank you, Leaf.

I’m sorry. I wasn’t clear. I meant of the actual Crowdfunding page set up by AA.

Leafstamp · 11/02/2022 17:43

I'm guessing not re AA crowdfunding page - as otherwise their identity would be compromised?

I'm curious as to the law on that, it mustn't be too difficult to work out who they are....what would happen to someone who revealed their identity? (I'm not going to risk it!)

Whatifitallgoesright · 11/02/2022 17:59

How does someone get anonymity when their name appears to already be in public domain?

Jux · 11/02/2022 18:28

OMG. I knew it was bad, but no idea HOW bad. Kudos to Raquel for still being here and fighting ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Incredible power of will, many would have folded, given up long ago.

I am horrified. I can't describe, I can't think of word that adequately describe the horror I feel at the extent of the corruption of one of our most highly respected erstwhile bastilns of free speech, learning, teaching,

HOW canan institution so full of intelligent people behave in such a way?

Off to do some gardening.

exwhyzed · 11/02/2022 18:57

@Spero

The statement was shared via a link to a website so the other thread doesn't need to be deleted. The link should access the redacted statement. I am concerned however to read that its 'easy' to read the address even though redacted. It looks pretty redacted to me!
I've just checked and there appears to be a properly redacted version now. At the time I posted last night I could tell that the text was still 'visible' beneath the black redaction, and sure enough when I copied and pasted that section to check it into a word document it showed up the address underneath (I didn't want to post the 'how to' bit last night for obvious reasons).

I read the whole thing last night. Absolutely shocking, and set out so clearly and concisely by Raquel.

amter · 11/02/2022 19:13

I have read the entire statement. I am so terribly sorry you went through that, and as an immigrant to the UK I am ashamed for my adopted country. No way in hell will my DC be going to Bristol uni.

Orangesquish · 11/02/2022 20:56

God. I've just read the whole thing- just awful. Solidarity to you, Raquel.

I missed out on a job at Bristol uni not too long ago - I can't help thinking I dodged a bullet there. I can guarantee that my children will not be applying there! Although depressingly I can well imagine this happening elsewhere.

sacredfeminina · 11/02/2022 21:32

Raquel I am so sorry you came to this country and were treated like this. This is all part of your journey though, I'm sure it is fateful you are here for this fight. Thank you for taking it. I hope all this will boost your future opportunities in life. X

Goatsaregreat · 11/02/2022 21:34

I've just finished reading this appalling account. You're one courageous women Raquel. Flowers

Hoardasurass · 12/02/2022 10:43

Just thought I would add this link to a spectator article about this by Julie bindal its really good www.spectator.co.uk/article/the-academic-taking-on-the-trans-activist-bullies-at-bristol-university

GrimDamnFanjo · 12/02/2022 12:28

Absolutely shameful behaviour directed at Racquel.
I could not believe a university would treat a student like this.

RestingStitchFace · 12/02/2022 12:29

Julie Bindel's article is excellent. Raquel is also still some way from her crowdfunding stretch target so leaving this here in case anyone can spare a few quid.

heathspeedwell · 12/02/2022 18:58

I did a spot of gardening when this first came to light but I had no idea of quite what Raquel had been though. Reading her statement really highlights her courage in the face of incredibly difficult circumstances. What a brave and principled woman!

Redheadredemption · 13/02/2022 13:16

Awful

girafferafferaffe · 13/02/2022 13:39

Reading it now. Bristol university are an utter disgrace.
