I find the responses to this article frightening

Marjorie Greene, known QAnon and conspiracy theorist who is a blot on American politics. However, the only thing she got wrong in her sign is that there are two genders when she means sex. The comments are hateful. I’m not sure what my point is - just find it frightening that when someone with her reputation says a truthful statement she gets shut down.

Chances are she's have been shouted down no matter who she was. But there is also a real tendency at the moment to condemn everything someone says if they are the "wrong" kind of person.

Speaking universal truths should be apolitical. She'd get shouted down by the Dems for saying the sky is blue. That's American politics for you, completely polarised to the point where if something you actually agree with is said by the other side, you are still meant to scream at them to prove you are not "one of them". It would take a Teflon coated leftie to publicly stand with Greene on anything. They'd get suffocated by the ensuing pile on.

My personal opinion is that she's a total loon. Mind you, a stopped clock etc etc. Although, I imagine her stance has more to do with knee jerk, Evangelical homophobia than any concern for the rights of women. I'm not convinced she's ever had much trust in science when it comes to evolution, for example.

I can't see the comments but I can imagine. I think the vitriol is frightening but I think there is worse on the horizon.

The MSM needs to stop fanning the flames and the grown ups need to reassert themselves before things get seriously and violently out of hand.

I know what you mean. It's one thing to disagree with someone, whatever the issue, but the way the misogyny is spewed out at women scares me. It shows me every time that the respect for women from the supposed good guys is wholly conditional.

I commented saying she’s awful but there are two sexes, not genders. I have now left the thread and wish I had never commented as my comment received derision, I was called a bigot and told that I was denying scientific fact. Quite horrible!

There is much less awareness of a sex/gender divide in language in North America. It's almost ubiquitous in a lot of contexts that clearly mean sex and many people don't have any awareness that they might differentiate.

It's perfectly possible to say that there are only two genders (even if you actually mean "sexes") and still have totally wrong opinions. The real question is can you be conceived and born as one, and then switch to being the other? Or as some would say, can you live as who you claim to be in spite of the configuration of your body?

And just incidentally, the proportion of women among the American lunatic contingent seems to be fairly high. (Thinking of some of Trump's entourage here.) It is certainly a trend that feminists should, uh, applaud.

Marjorie Greene posts things like this to elicit awful responses...there are hundreds if not thousands of women who, in good faith and in the service of sex-based rights for women and/or feminism and/or in protection of children make the same case and receive the same vitriol: they deserve our empathy, but not Greene. Greene is doing this ON PURPOSE to divide the left from the right in US politics. She's an extremist and a troll...who WANTS this kind of response to show how awful the left is. She doesn't really want to help women, children or really anyone but herself. Don't feel extra bad for her just because she, like all women, experience misogyny of the worst kind. She's not on our side.
