I see the reasoning but I’d worry it would be twisted or misunderstood to mean Phil in the “philia” sense.

BuanoKubiamVej · 04/02/2022 07:54

Plenty of womaniser abusers will be glad to call themselves philogynists

Barbarantia · 04/02/2022 09:20

No thank you. I'm not to be marketed.

Slothtoes · 04/02/2022 11:02

I’m stupid enough that I just think of stamp collecting sorry so it’s not very helpful to me. Grin
You’re absolutely right that it is all just marketing though. Could pro-women do the job? Or anti-sexist?

QuinkWashable · 04/02/2022 11:12

nope - cos laws are written with the old one.

Facilities and services are designated with the old one.

Woman is taken. We're not the people who need to budge up and find a new word for ourselves.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 04/02/2022 21:47

Mumsnet, I wrote that they would take whatever word we used. Why was that deleted? It’s a simple statement of fact. They have taken the word woman and are now taking female. Words like mother are replaced by ‘birthing parent’ etc.

Are we supposed to pretend ‘TWAW’ is a political phenomenon that hasn’t happened? Why would we need to do that? Who’d benefit from it? What’s wrong with fact? We’re all entitled to our own opinions, but not yet to our own facts, surely?

Language to do with women has been erased, stigmatised, taken over and used against us (women). That’s what people are purposely doing when they say ‘transwomen ARE women’ etc. They’re redefining (for them) what woman means with those words. They want everyone else to adhere to that redefinition too, which is why they are saying it. If the word ‘woman’ already meant ‘anyone’, then obviously there’d be no need for a slogan to restate what they think ‘woman’ should mean..
