Well.... that is a surprise...

ArabellaScott · 04/01/2022 14:28

archive links? Why on earth not?

ArabellaScott · 04/01/2022 14:29

oh, I see, those avoiding paywalls? Makes a bit more sense.

TurquoiseBaubles · 04/01/2022 14:53

So in summary, the Scottish government is paying lobbying groups to, erm, lobby, and then meeting up with them to allow them to lobby. They then say they've met with lobby groups so any decisions they make are completely independent and free of bias.

Simultaneously the Scottish government is refusing to meet with any groups who disagree with them, and using that to say that no-one disagrees.

Is that right.

Yeah, I asked about it, it's a copyright issue. Unfortunately afaik the Telegraph doesn't do sharetokens like the Times (those are OK as they're an explicitly allowed method of sharing articles).

Gawd. It's beyond farce.

A spokesman for the Scottish Government said...“No group that has requested a meeting about the Gender Recognition Bill has been refused.

Is he lying? It's hard to believe that For Women Scotland have not requested a meeting. Have FWS stated that they have requested a meeting and been refused?

Needmoresleep · 04/01/2022 17:53

OT a bit, but the Telegraph suggests that as well as ignoring women’s groups, they have omitted the Scottish Catholic Church.

What is Sturgeon up to. Women are a huge group, many of whom will opposed to self ID. The Catholic Church, ditto.

Is she so blindingly chasing an assumed woke youth vote that she is failing to recognise that in a democracy, the majority view prevails. (OK, inexactly and via elections every four years, but I hope you know what I mean.) Or is she personally so committed to the TWAW that it is affecting her normally astute antennae.

The more Sturgeon does this, the more people from these major stakeholder groups are likely to decide that even if they support the idea of an independent Scotland, they don’t trust Sturgeon or other leading members of the SNP to run it.

TurquoiseBaubles · 04/01/2022 18:07

I suppose it's "progressive" to ignore religion these days, especially the Catholic Church. I'm beginning to think it's also considered "progressive" to ignore women - or perhaps it always was, I just didn't notice as much.

Selkiesarereal · 04/01/2022 18:32

My msp doesn’t even respond to my concerns anymore. Let’s hope it come back to bite them on their arse at the next election.

Needmoresleep · 04/01/2022 18:37

Religious belief is also a protected characteristic.

Maybe Sturgeon just does not do the Equalities Act.

Artichokeleaves · 04/01/2022 19:03

Ms Sturgeon may discover however that the EqAct does her.

Nine characteristics. Not one.

MerchedCymru · 04/01/2022 20:53

Perfect summary TurquoiseBaubles. Representative democracy is just a pipe-dream for women in Scotland and for religious and ethnic groups.

We are watching with great interest given that Welsh Government appear to be reading exactly the same guidelines; we are just a few pages behind you but, as one of the top-rated Stonewall Diversity Champions, our Government is determined to catch up. And determined not to include anyone who is not signed up to gender ideology in their discussions.

It's genuinely shocking.

Crowdfundingforcake · 05/01/2022 07:32

Have emailed my MP/MSP/ local councillors twice over these issues. Only ever heard back from conservative bods, nothing from SNP or Lib Dem, not even an acknowledgement or form response.

MiladyBerserko · 05/01/2022 07:33

Glad to see The Times continuing to cover this.

AssignedBlobbyAtBirth · 05/01/2022 07:57

Didn't I read somewhere that she is looking to her future career as something in 'equality'
I can't remember if it was within the EU or the UN

MidnightMoor · 05/01/2022 11:03

I'm so worried about what's going on in Scotland.

Feel like I don't have a voice.

Jux · 05/01/2022 12:12

Of course you have a voice as long as you say what they want to hear.

The constant undermining of democracy in Scotland and Wales is very worrying.

Igneococcus · 05/01/2022 12:26

Someone in the comments saying she received a response from here SNP MSP "I consider this matter closed and won’t be responding further. "

Mrsorganmorgan · 05/01/2022 12:35

Jux, I agree. I live in Wales. Have you seen the school curriculum for 2022? It is horrific!
