Thank you for sharing Appledrop.

I hadn’t seen it and it was a good interview.

TinselAngel · 03/01/2022 15:10

You'd think Debbie would have lessons to plan.

TooWicked · 03/01/2022 16:39

Didn't Debbie Haydon co-write some guidance for schools which said that males should be allowed into female toilets? Have I got that wrong?

Yes. Even cross dressing teachers at staff parties.

Shame there’s so few female teachers that they had to interview a TW teacher instead Hmm

For people on the fence seeing a TW making the GC case is important as it broadens the appeal of the debate and reassures those listening whilst overtaking on the motorway, settling a baby, or on hold to their GP's surgery that there really is nothing phobic about women wanting to keep their own word/spaces etc. There is little value in us talking to ourselves - we need to convince those who don't think about these things much. It might not be an ideal approach but if we're purist about this then 1) it is just another kind of identity politics which got us in this mess in the first place and 2) we'll loose.

As the TW who stick their heads above the parapet on this tend to get abuse from all sides I am just grateful to them for their defence of this truth - and if we want it to be accepted as a fact or universal truth we have to stop defending that truth as though it is ours alone. EVERYONE needs the right to talk about it. The word/spaces/sports/rights are ours alone, but not the truth.

The problem is that there is a need to broaden the appeal FFS!

The illogical mess we are in is obvious. There should not be any need at all to have to talk about men in women's prisons, sports etc.

No need to censor posters here so we cannot identify a man as a man etc.

But we do. Why?

We need to stop pottering around the edges of this, beingpolite. We need just to say no.

No - I won't debate that anti science ideology with you because it is illogical

No - I won't debate whether or not human beings can change or not - because it is ilogical and anti science

No - I won't debate whether some men should be allowed into womens prisons or sports with you - because it is patently obvious what the ONLY answer is.

And see how different that is from No Debate?

My New Year's Resolution is an old one - Just Say No - because it's what I mean!

And were you as uncritically grateful to Posie Parker? Or did you 'disagree with her on sme things but ?'

Or any of the other women who have been consistently sticking their heads above the parapet when they actually have something to lose (rather than more column inches to win?)

Will there ever be a time when women get to broaden the appeal of women rights debate? Will we always have to rely on men?

ZuttZeVootEeeVo · 04/01/2022 14:34

One practical problem with allowing men to speak as experts about women rights, is when do we get to say 'enough' and let women to have our say?

Every time men get to speak publicly, they get more known and more experienced, and therefore used more. The women who aren't used don't get the benefit of practice. It's becomes a vicious circle.

Certain men seem to have a hotline to tv and radio shows where they are seen as experts, but really how much more expert are they than any women, apart from having more media experience?
